The hit Starz historical romance drama Outlander revolves around the feisty Claire Fraser and her adventures and epic romance with the dashing Scottish highlander, James Fraser.

But aside from Claire and Jamie, the series has a range of other rather interesting characters, from the good, the bad, and the bizarre. Unsurprisingly, there are those who are mean, petty, or just evil through and through. Here are ten such characters that are simply disgusting or hateful in the series.

Laoghaire

Laoghaire

Laoghaire is one of the most hateful characters in the Outlander universe. She is mean, petty and unlike her daughter Marsali, she is narrow-minded besides being scheming.

When Laoghaire was first introduced as a petulant young woman, she was just a naive young lady who mistook Jamie's respect for women to be love. She carried a major crush on Jamie her whole life and he even ended up in a loveless marriage with her. Although her own story was tragic enough, her mean-mindedness made her annoying every time she appeared on screen.

Duke Of Sandringham

The Duke Of Sandringham in Out

The Duke was a despicable character who appeared conflicted at first, leaving fans wondering if he was really not so bad after all.

However, fans felt little empathy for him when it was finally revealed that he had stooped as low as ordering a sexual assault on Claire in Paris. The Duke was a cagey personality, although played with flamboyance by actor Simon Callow.

The Comte St. Germain

The Comte was yet another villainous and hateful character who tried to get Claire killed first by poisoning and then by colluding with the Duke to have her murdered.

The Comte held little respect for human life, and although his death might have been a bit questionable what with Master Raymond deceiving Claire by putting poison in the container, his character was one of the least likable.

Bonnie Prince Charlie

Charles Stuart

The Bonnie Prince Charlie was perhaps not as hated as he was annoying. The Prince was depicted as something of an idiot, although he wasn't entirely foolish and believed in his cause.

The Bonnie Prince was in fact not even a well-rounded character, but rather a caricature of sorts. He was not as despicable as the Duke of Sandringham or the Comte St. Germain but managed to provoke a sense of disgust and disrespect all the same.

Philip Wylie

Philip Wylie

The character Philip Wylie appeared in season 5 and promptly made his place as one of the most annoying characters in the series.

With his heavily powdered face and his cheap ways, Wylie is someone who has come into a lot of money and often finds himself in high society, although he has neither the manner nor the disposition for it. He also tried to force himself on Claire, which was an instant way to get the fans to hate him.

Governor Tryon

The Governor was typical to the popular image of the British senior officers at the time, dry, egotistic, and wicked.

It was possibly the moment when Tryon forced Jamie into wearing the redcoat, the uniform of the British army during the Battle of Alamance, that fans hated him the most. And then, of course, he was keener to kill the Regulators and cause loss of lives than opt for a truce. Tryon was also responsible for the death of one of the most beloved characters on the show, Murtagh, for, without the battle, Murtagh would have been alive.

Geillis Duncan

Geillis Duncan Outlander

Geillis Duncan was a supporting character in season 1 and then the chief antagonist of season 3. She was rather unhinged and didn't place much value on human life, taking it as and when it suited her.

Geillis was perhaps not as hateful as the Duke or say Black Jack Randall, but like the latter, she was an intriguing character who couldn't be discounted even when she behaved atrociously.

Roger McKenzie

Roger MacKenzie in Outlander

Roger McKenzie is a supporting character in the series and although a part of the Fraser family, he is a conflicted character at best.

Roger has his adorable moments, but he gets toxic at times with his display of chauvinism and the way he behaves with Brianna, for instance, the time he hesitated to come back to Brianna when he learned that her son might not be his.

Stephen Bonnet

Stephen Bonnet

Stephen Bonnet was yet another amoral character who kept popping back into the lives of Claire and her family like a bad penny.

Bonnet attacked the boat carrying Claire, Jamie, and their friends on the way to River Run and then attacked Brianna. He was also prone to summarily throwing passengers off his ship whether or not they were affected by smallpox. Bonnet was vile, and his association with the Frasers was unwanted, to say the least.

Black Jack Randall

Black Jack Randall Outlander

Possibly the most hateful character in Outlander was Jonathan Randall, the godless, sadistic officer of the British army forsaken by any traces of humanity, earning him the tag 'Black Jack Randall'.

Randall was pure evil and generated a sense of revulsion in fans, although he was too fascinating to simply dismiss. Tobias Menzies did an admirable job playing the twisted character, packing a punch in his performance as one of the most interesting villains in recent television.
