The upcoming The Outer Worlds patch adds many long-requested quality of life changes. Obsidian Entertainment, previously beloved for Fallout: New Vegas, is eager to fix many small-yet-frustrating things that users have been complaining about since release.

Launching in 2019, The Outer Worlds gained traction as a critical and commercial success and, most importantly, as a return to the action-RPG elements of its developer's past. Many think back to Fallout 3 and New Vegas as a golden age for action-combat RPGs that, unfortunately, have been lost ever since their systems began to be simplified in the new generation. Much like the Bethesda-published Fallout gamesThe Outer Worlds features open areas for the player to explore and many characters to speak to with lots of choice-based gameplay options. The player allocates stats to their character, upgrading different aspects of their combat prowess, as well as increasing various other mechanics such as temperament and charm to aid in communication with NPCs.

On The Outer Worlds official forums, Obsidian Entertainment posted a list of fixes and changes coming in their most recent patch. This includes adjustable text size, which has been a constant issue for players playing at a distance on a television or on high-resolution monitors. Not only that, but they have improved font colors for visibility and added support for ultra-wide monitors. They also added new quest beacons on the map, so players can track side-quests more easily. Along with the host of UI changes, Obsidian has also added the ability to toggle sprint in-game. There are dozens of bugs that have been fixed as well.

This may be the perfect time to jump back into The Outer Worlds, considering that many of the most requested player changes have been added and the game, seemingly, is in the best state it has ever been in. It is sure to see a small resurgence of players thanks to these new updates, so this is a good time for anyone who wants to have an active community to discuss the best character builds with.

Obsidian Entertainment has stated that due to the game’s success, there could eventually be a sequel to The Outer Worlds. However, the sequel may not be fully open-world, similar to this current title. While there are large zones to explore, these zones aren’t interconnected. Instead, there are loading screens between them that may ruin the game's immersion for some. With that said, The Outer Worlds has sold over two million units, making it one of the best-selling titles of 2019. These impressive sales signify the craving for traditional RPGs in a market that has been somewhat devoid of them.
