Obsidian Entertainment recently deployed a patch for The Outer Worlds that allows the game to run at 60fps on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Such an update couldn't have come at a better time either, considering the impending release of the first-person title's second and final campaign DLC - Murder on Eridanos.

The Murder on Eridanos DLC will task players and their crewmates aboard the Unreliable with solving the murder of Halcyon Helen. This DLC's pulp thriller qualities will help separate it from the overall tone of the base game and the first post-launch release, Peril on Gorgon. While The Outer Worlds and Peril on Gorgon received generally positive reception across the board, not everyone could enjoy the experience to the fullest due to inconsistent frame rates on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. For many players, it's a persistent issue, one Obsidian has reportedly resolved for PS5 and Xbox Series X owners.

Once Murder on Eridanos arrives, PS5 and Xbox Series X players won't need to worry about frame drops and the like. As noted by Twitter user Nibel, fans have reported that a 26GB patch recently went live on Xbox Series X, allowing The Outer Worlds to run at 60fps. Another Twitter user, ArmoredFrog, shared a video that shows the RPG also runs at 60fps on PlayStation 5, courtesy of the 1.0.7 update.

Suffice it to say, a 60fps patch is just what the doctor ordered for The Outer Worlds. Such an update could prove a boon to the game overall, considering lapsed players may now have reason to return to the game world. Those who have yet to jump in at all may now feel enticed to give the sci-fi RPG a try, as well.

Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Private Division released The Outer Worlds in late 2019 to predominantly glowing praise from critics and fans. The critical and commercial success may have already secured the franchise's future, too. A report from last fall suggested Obsidian had already begun work on The Outer Worlds 2, though neither the development studio nor the publisher have confirmed as much.
