Obsidian Entertainment has shown off some gameplay of the upcoming Peril on Gorgon DLC for The Outer Worlds at Gamescom 2020. The Peril on Gorgon DLC is the first to be made and released for The Outer Worlds and was initially unveiled during the Xbox Games Showcase last July. It’s scheduled to launch in less than a couple of weeks on September 9, 2020.

The Outer Worlds is the latest major RPG from Obsidian Entertainment. It was initially released last year for the PS4, Xbox One, as well as PC, and was recently released on the Switch last June. It was widely considered as one of the best games of 2019 and has won several awards. The game features many similarities to the modern Fallout series, which isn’t surprising given that Obsidian Entertainment developed Fallout: New Vegas. The studio also developed other classic RPG titles including Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II and Neverwinter Nights 2.

The new gameplay video for Peril on Gorgon, which was also published on the Obsidian Entertainment YouTube channel, showed off some footage from one of the earlier parts of the DLC. Narrated by Peril on Gorgon game director Carrie Patel, the video shows us Peril on Gorgon’s new quest hub, called a Sprat Shack. A supply hub turned bar, the Sprat Shack is where players will be able to pick up several quests from, including the one featured in the video. According to the video, one of the main storylines of the DLC is finding out what exactly happened in Gorgon and to the people who lived and are still surviving there.

The new gameplay video also shows off one of the game’s new Science Weapons called the P.E.T. (Pest Extermination Tool), which looks like an axe that utilizes multiple tiny blowtorch heads to form its two opposite “blades.” The P.E.T. is equipped with grav-plating that allows players to pull enemies closer for melee combat. New marauder enemy variants specific to Gorgon as well as some of the new terrain and locations of the world are also shown off. Lastly, the video shows off the new audio logs that players will find across Gorgon.

Looking at the 12-minute gameplay video, Peril on Gorgon looks quite promising, especially for those who enjoyed The Outer Worlds but found it to be too short and want to play more of it. Hopefully the DLC’s story as well as the rest of the new content it will be introducing is just as or even more interesting as what’s been shown so far.
