The Latest Outer Banks Season 3 News

Madelyn Cline and Chase Stokes in Outer Banks season 3

Outer Banks season 3 updates have been few and far between since season 2 became available to stream in 2021. It wasn’t until Netflix confirmed a February 2023 release for season 3 that news about the upcoming season began to roll out. Netflix has publicly confirmed which cast members are returning, given fans a look at what’s to come and even made the list of episode titles available for fans to speculate.

Among the episode titles for the third season are “Poguelandia,” “The Bells,” “Fathers and Sons,” “The Diary,” “Heists,” “The Dark Forest,” “Happy Anniversary,” “Tapping The Rudder,” “Welcome To Kitty Hawk,” and “Secret Of Gnomon.” The titles will definitely lead to speculation among fans as many of the terms, like “Poguelandia,” are specific to the series. Kitty Hawk, however, is a real place in North Carolina. It’s where the Wright brothers experimented with flying. “Gnomon” isn’t a well-known term, but it references the part of a sundial that casts a shadow.

Outer Banks Season 3 Story Details

JJ and Kiara Outer Banks Season 3

Season 3 picks up shortly after the events of season 2 in which the Outer Banks Pogues find themselves stranded on a secluded beach far from home. While the group might have fun fishing, and swimming, and with a lack of adult interference, that doesn’t last forever as they are dragged right back into the treasure hunt that has caused so much drama in their lives. The group has no funds, and no transportation, and finds themselves on the run all over again, not knowing who they can trust.

New players in season 3 will be on the same hunt for the treasure the Pogues spent season 2 tracking down. That will put the teenagers in even more danger and make the treasure seem even farther out of their reach. While that plays out, however, there is still the matter of Sarah's family members, Rafe and Ward Cameron, out for revenge against those they believe wronged them. It’s all set to lead to a volatile season.

The adventure will still leave room for the Pogues to deal with their traumas of the previous seasons and explore new romances. Those are both major storylines in the season according to an Entertainment Weekly interview with the producers and main cast. Josh Pate teases the "big romance of the season" is JJ and Kiara as the two lean on one another through all the hardship they've experienced.

Unlike theatrical movies, Netflix doesn’t typically release trailers for their television projects too far in advance. The streaming platform did share a teaser trailer for Outer Banks as part of their TUDUM event in September 2022. Fans didn’t get to see a full-length trailer until February 3, 2023 - just 20 days before the season was set to premiere.

Will There Be An Outer Banks Season 4?

Netflix doesn’t have a habit of announcing series renewals before a show premieres very often. That’s true in the case of Outer Banks as well. It took nearly six months after season 2 was made available to stream before Netflix announced a season 3. Outer Banks is one of the most popular series on the platform. Following the debut of the second season, both seasons were among Netflix’s most streamed content for six weeks. If season 3 proves just as popular with the streaming service, a season 4 should be inevitable.
