Here's everything we know about Outer Banks season 2 so far, including its potential renewal and release date. Set off the coast of North Carolina, Outer Banks season 1 follows the beef between locals known as "pogues" and wealthier vacationers known as "kooks." Outer Banks season 1 released in April 2020.
In Outer Banks season 1, a 16-year-old pogue named John B (Chase Stokes) lives on his own after the recent disappearance of his treasure-seeking father. He and best friend JJ (Rudy Pankow) hang out and fish, along with their close friends Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and Kie (Madison Bailey). Because of John B's age, authorities want to place him in a new home. Meanwhile, the wealthy Ward Cameron (Charles Esten) and his teenage daughter, Sarah (Madelyn Cline), heavily influence John B's personal life, which intermingles with the pogue's plan to locate the long-lost treasure of a sunken ship called The Merchant. Outer Banks season 1 builds to a climax involving minor conflict among pogues, major conflict among kooks, and a murder rap that's been wrongly pinned on the series narrator, John B.
The Outer Banks season 1 finale includes a wild chase involving John B and local authorities. Unable to hide on the island, the teenage treasure hunter and girlfriend Sarah are forced into an aquatic adventure just as a storm arrives. Here's everything we expect for Outer Banks season 2 on Netflix.
Outer Banks Season 2 Renewal
Netflix hasn't yet ordered Outer Banks season 2. If the streaming service maintains their usual renewal/cancellation schedule, a decision will be announced three-to-six weeks after the April 15, 2020 release date. Given the thematic similarities to Elite, a popular Spanish series on Netflix about class and power, Outer Banks season 1 will probably be a breakout hit, certainly with its cast of up-and-coming stars. Expect Outer Banks season 2 to be officially announced by Netflix in May 2020, if it happens.
Outer Banks Season 2 Release Date
Since Outer Banks season 1 consists of 10 full-length episodes, Netflix will most likely plan a season-per-year release model. If new episodes are ordered in May, then Outer Banks season 2 will be filmed later in the year and likely release in 2021. It's possible that Outer Banks season 2 will release sometime in either April or May 2021 (assuming that there aren't any significant production delays because of COVID-19).
Outer Banks Season 2 Story Details
Outer Banks season 1 ends with another big mystery to unravel, at least for the local pogues and kooks. John B and Sarah literally manage to make it through the storm; however, the Carolina islanders believe the couple succumbed to the sea, just like so many other seafarers in the past. Crucially, John B delivers an important message to authorities before his disappearance, revealing that Ward Cameron killed his father and that Rafe killed Sheriff Peterkin (Adina Porter).
So, Outer Banks season 2 will most likely have two main storylines. After being rescued at sea, John B and Sarah will search for their lost gold in Nassau - their next destination in The Bahamas. And the duo will undoubtedly be trailed by people who learn about the treasure, and want part of the action. Back in North Carolina, Ward will have to explain himself to authorities, and the remaining pogues will have to sort out a financial conflict with local badboys Topper (Austin North) and Barry (Nicholas Cirillo). There's also a brewing romance between the pogues Kie and Pope. Somehow, it feels like they'll end up reuniting with John B and Sarah in the Caribbean during Outer Banks season 2 on Netflix, and with the kooky Ward Cameron not far behind.
