Barack Obama will host the new Netflix documentary nature series, Our Great National Parks. Announced April of last year, there was previously no indication that the 44th President of the United States would host the new show. This will be the third documentary released under the Obamas' Higher Grounds Productions studio after Becoming, Crip Camp: A Disability Revolution, and the Academy Award-winning American Factory.

Deadline reports that Obama will narrate and host the upcoming Netflix nature documentary series. Our Great National Parks will showcase diverse environments from national parks all over the world and how their preservation will benefit mankind and the planet as a whole. The recently released trailer showcased a visual feast of nature scenes consisting of animals that can be found nowhere outside the protected ecosystems.

Our Great National Parks is part of an effort by the former two-term President to raise awareness of the effects of man-made climate change and of the importance and benefits of preserving the world's most delicate natural environments. A big proponent of climate change action, President Obama issued the Presidential Climate Action Plan in an effort to preserve forests, study the effects of climate change, and reduce carbon emissions. In 2016, the plan was revoked by executive order on the first day of President Trump's term, calling it unnecessary.

The upcoming documentary series will cover natural parks found in the United States but also around the world, such as Indonesia's Gunung Leuser, Kenya's Tsavo, and Chile's Patagonia Natural Parks. Our Great National Parks is executive produced by James Honeyborne, one of the filmmakers on BBC's critically acclaimed nature series, Blue Planet II. Season 1 of Our Great National Parks will stream April 13 on Netflix.
