Othercide is a dark, turn-based tactics game where players can control an army of Daughters. These Daughters are the offspring of the greatest warrior that has ever existed, and must be used to battle the forces of Suffering in the world. Using a variety of skills, the four classes of Daughters can be directed in battle against nightmarish enemies that aim to lay waste to their opponents. Players can use multiple playthroughs, called recollections, to try to move further in the game and resurrect Daughters.

Now that all the bosses in the first five eras have been completed, it is time for the final test. The final boss is the most difficult boss in Othercide. Many playthroughs, resurrections, missions, and upgrades have been needed to reach this point, and once The Nucleus is vanquished players can finally claim victory over the Suffering.

How to Defeat The Nucleus in Othercide

The Nucleus Fight Othercide

In the final battle, players are allowed to use five daughters instead of the standard four. There will also be five enemy Corrupted Daughters on the map preceding The Nucleus. While they are taken out, The Nucleus should appear within a few turns. Like The Maid, The Nucleus only has 35,000 HP, which makes it seem like a not-so-difficult boss. It also has multiple phases that it will go through as its health drops. Its three skills are all instant: Instinct, Reanimation, and Reshaping.

Instinct will deal 250 damage to a nearby daughter and allow The Nucleus to teleport anywhere on the map. While the damage isn’t excessive, changing position on the map can make strategizing difficult. Send in shieldbearers to slow it down and delay its turns, and, as a result, its teleportation abilities. Reanimation will summon Corrupted Daughters, and Reshaping will transform them into a Hopebreaker. Blademasters and Scythedancers should be used to damage The Nucleus as much as possible so that the Daughters don’t have to continuously take damage as the battle wears on. The next phase can be reached quickly with this strategy. This triggers First Crack and resets the initiative to zero.

At 60% of its health, The Nucleus will gain a new ability. Infection is an attack that will need to charge and will affect Daughters on the map in a cross pattern. Each beam coming from The Nucleus will cause 750 damage, and they will ricochet off of Daughters and enemy units to create four more beams spreading out from each victim. This makes it very important to take out the Corrupted Daughters and thin out the battlefield before this phase begins. Place Daughters on the map where they shouldn’t be impacted repeatedly by ricochet beams.

After The Nucleus has been beaten, there will be a second, secret boss. The Nucleus will break open to show the real final boss: The Suffering.

How to Defeat The Suffering in Othercide

The Suffering Boss Othercide

Now that The Nucleus has worn the Daughters down, The Suffering is here to bring the pain. Be prepared for this fight to be very long and stressful, as The Suffering is self-healing. The Suffering starts with 70,000 HP, making it twice as strong as its predecessor. It has five abilities throughout all phases of the battle.

Its instant abilities are Ordeal, Hardship, and Distress. The Suffering can use Ordeal to switch positions with the Daughter that is furthest away from it and combust to deal 600 damage. Hardship will cause 1000 damage to emit in a cross pattern from each of the Daughters. Take care not to place them where their crosses will reach each other. This can be difficult to predict, as Ordeal will frequently displace them. Distress will also give the Daughters a 20 initiative delay.

Pain and Love are both reaction moves. Pain will restore 150 HP to The Suffering every time it is attacked, and Love will interrupt melee attacks and push the Daughters back. Purity will reset the initiative to zero when The Suffering is at 60% health. Keeping all of the Daughters spread out will keep them from receiving damage from The Suffering as it uses Ordeal, and using strong attacks can make it hard for the boss to earn back its HP. Also, keep the most important or weak Daughter the furthest away from The Suffering, as it should switch with her and prevent her from taking damage. Have Soulslingers use intercepting rounds to interrupt The Suffering’s attacks and protect their sisters.

There is a unique advantage that Shieldbearers will have over The Suffering: if Blacksmith’s Grace is used, it will activate when Pain is activated. This moves the Shieldbearer up in the timeline as The Suffering is attacked. Then, Slam can be used repeatedly to delay The Suffering’s attacks. Because this is the last battle, players should be willing to sacrifice as many Daughters as needed to finish this final battle, as they can be resurrected at a later date.

Once The Suffering has been defeated, players will be rewarded a Remembrance Perk: the Flower of Paradise. This allows all Daughters to start at the maximum level of 15. After receiving the flower, players can also choose to start a new recollection, and all of the current Daughters will be sent to the cemetery where they can later be resurrected. If players were able to beat The Nucleus, but not The Suffering, they will earn the Suffering Parasite Remembrance that rewards players with an additional 50% XP gains in the next playthrough.
