Lin-Manuel Miranda admits to having turned down the opportunity to host the Oscars in the past, saying that hosting is not in his skillset. The talented Miranda has been busy in the last few years, especially with gaining big recognition for writing the book, music and lyrics for the cultural phenomenon Hamilton, which took home 11 trophies at the 2016 Tony Awards and won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. A filmed version of Hamilton on Broadway was released on Disney+ in July of 2020, with the pandemic shutting down access to events such as live theater. Miranda has since said that adding the hit show on Disney+ has made it receive more audience interest.

The multi-hyphenate is also a regular collaborator with Disney, starring in the Emily Blunt-led Mary Poppins Returns, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. Miranda has also helped write music for hit Disney films such as Moana and the recent success Encantowith the latter film's song "We Don't Talk About Bruno" becoming a hit. The talented songwriter also made his feature directorial debut with the Netflix musical Tick, Tick... Boom!, starring Andrew Garfield, Alexandra Shipp, and Vanessa Hudgens.

In a recent interview with PeopleMiranda addresses the ongoing search for a host for this year's Academy Awards broadcast, revealing that he has said no to the job in the past. He states that it is not in his skill set to do so, feeling uncomfortable with hosting the big event. Miranda says that he would much rather prefer to write for the hosts instead of taking on the role himself. Check out is full comment below:

I have said no in the past. I really don’t think that that’s my skillset. It’s not something I’m comfortable doing, hosting, mainly because I’ve been lucky enough to work with incredible hosts. I’ve written for Neil Patrick Harris, I’ve written his opening numbers and closing numbers for the Tonys. That is a whole other thing. He is genius at that, he and Hugh Jackman. I actually don’t think- that’s not something I feel confident in. I’m happy to write for the host, but I don’t know that… I wouldn’t feel comfortable hosting.

The Academy Awards have not had a host for the last three years after controversy surrounding 2019's choice, Kevin Hart, resulting in the show running smoothly without one. The 2022 Oscars have confirmed that there will be a host, however, with several celebrities being considered for the role. Pete Davidson and Tom Holland were high-profile contenders, but Davidson taking on the role is quite unlikely. The star trio of Only Murders in the Building, which includes the trio of Selena Gomez, Martin Short, and Steve Martin, have also been popular candidates.

While audiences won't see Miranda on stage hosting the 2022 Oscars, the man of many talents is still working hard in his career. He is the co-composer and co-producer of the long-awaited live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid. The film is set to be released in 2023, with the likes of Halle Bailey, Javier Bardem, and Awkwafina all staring in the musical fantasy film.
