Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland says he would love to host the Academy Awards next year. No Way Home is the third film in Holland's trilogy of solo Spider-Man films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the ninth live-action Spider-Man film since the turn of the millennium. The new film, which premiered in theaters on December 17, combines all of those chronologies as Peter Parker must face off against villains from both Sam Raimi's original 2002 Spider-Man trilogy and Marc Webb's 2012 The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel.

Spider-Man: No Way Home has had a glittering box office run, shaking off the curse of the pandemic box office to rake in the profits. In just six days, it is already the highest-grossing U.S. film worldwide. This followed it breaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens' domestic record for best December opening weekend and receiving second place behind its MCU peer Avengers: Endgame in almost every other opening record category.

While speaking with THR about the huge critical and commercial success of Spider-Man: No Way Home and its potential to be nominated for Best Picture, Holland admitted that he'd love to host the Oscars. However, he's far too busy to make it happen this year, between his commitments on Apple TV+'s The Crowded Room and the Uncharted press tour. However, he says he would relish that opportunity because he "love[s] being put under pressure and doing things that [he feels] uncomfortable doing." Read the full quote below:

Maybe in the future, but in all honesty I’m just too busy right now. I don’t have the time. I’ve got an Uncharted press tour to do, and then I start shooting in early March for this TV show [Apple TV+’s The Crowded Room] which is going to take up a lot of my time and is definitely the hardest role I’ve ever taken on.

So maybe one day in the future. But no, not right now. Honestly, I just don’t have the time. And you know I would love to do that — I love that kind of thing, I love being put under pressure and doing things that I feel uncomfortable doing. So I’m interested in it, but I just don’t have the time.

Tom Holland looking up in Spider-Man No Way Home

It still seems unlikely that Spider-Man: No Way Home will be nominated for Best Picture, considering that the only MCU film to ever earn that distinction has been Black Panther. However, Spider-Man has had a presence at the Academy Awards in the past. The first two Sam Raimi films were nominated for five Oscars between them, with Spider-Man 2 winning Best Visual Effects. Likewise, a Spider-Man performer - James Franco (who played Harry Osborn in the Raimi trilogy) - has previously co-hosted the ceremony, so there is a precedent for Holland to take that stage when he's ready.

Holland has already proven that he has the skills required to be an excellent Oscars host. He could resurrect the traditional Oscars host production number by harnessing the song and dance skills he showed off in his first major role - Billy Elliot on stageas well as the acrobatics skills he harnessed for Spider-Man: No Way Home. There's probably no better time for him than this year, so hopefully the folks behind the Uncharted press tour will see what an amazing promotional opportunity it would be for Holland to host and carve him out some time.
