The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced its full list of 2022 Oscars nominations. After a year plagued by COVID-19 delays to film productions and an extended awards season, the movie calendar wasn't hit with as many complications during 2021. Last year saw streaming services continue to grow as the theatrical experience attempted to regain its strength amid the pandemic. Through all of the discussion about the future of the movie industry, the last half of the year saw attention once again turn towards the 94th Oscars, which holds its ceremony on March 27, 2022.

Throughout the awards season, various frontrunners and contenders have emerged in different categories in the lead-up to the 2022 Oscar nominations. Netflix's The Power of the Dog has dominated in some of the biggest categories and guilds, such as its eight BAFTA nominations. Jane Campion was expected to be in the Best Director conversation as a result, along with frequent nominees like Paul Thomas Anderson and Steven Spielberg, whose West Side Story could include Best Supporting Actress winner Ariana DeBose. The Best Actor and Best Actress races looked to be tight heading into the nomination announcements, with plenty of buzz surrounding lauded performances in The Power of the Dog, West Side Story, and King Richard.
