Oscar Isaac is in talks to lend his voice to Gomez Addams in Conrad Vernon's animated Addams Family movie. Vernon made a splash last year as a director with his raunchy animated comedy Sausage Party and has been formally attached to MGM's animated Addams Family project since this past October. The film itself has been in development since 2013, with Pamela Pettler (Corpse Bride, Monster House) and Matt Lieberman (the upcoming animated Scooby-Doo reboot Scooby) writing the script.

The Addams Family originated in the late 1930s as a series of satirical cartoons for The New Yorker that were drawn by Charles Addams for some fifty years, until the time of his death. Among the more famous adaptations of Addams' original comics are the 1960s black and white Addams Family television series (which ran for two seasons), as well as the live-action Addams Family movies that were released in the 1990s (in particular, the Barry Sonnenfeld-helmed The Addams Family and Addams Family Values). Back in 2010, it was reported that Tim Burton was developing a stop-motion Addams Family film, with the intention of potentially directing it. Ultimately, however, Burton's adaptation fell by the wayside, clearing the way for MGM's own animated iteration.

Tracking Board is reporting that Oscar Isaac has entered negotiations to voice Gomez Addams in MGM and Vernon's animated film. Isaac has yet to actually sign on for the role, but at the moment the talks are expected to result in a deal. No other major characters in the movie - including, the matriarch of the "creepy and kooky" Addams clan (and Gomez' wife) Morticia - have been cast at this stage, nor does the film have an official release date just yet.

Isaac, who can currently be seen reprising his role as Resistance X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron on the big screen in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is a newcomer to the world of animated movie voice acting. However, he has become increasingly prolific and popular on the live acting side of things in recent years, with roles in franchises like X-Men and Jason Bourne, as well as the Star Wars movies. While Isaac is currently filming the Nazi-hunting drama/thriller Operation Finale with director Chris Weitz (The Golden Compass), that shouldn't present any sort of scheduling conflict that would prevent him from working on Addams Family at some time over the next year.

On top of being a fan-favorite actor in general, Isaac has been a popular online pick to star in a live-action Addams Family movie for awhile. (Famous fan artist BossLogic even whipped up a poster that cast Isaac as Gomez opposite Eva Green as Morticia Addams.) Isaac playing Gomez in an animated take on the property isn't quite the same thing, but it's an enticing prospect all the same. Meanwhile, Pettler and Vernon's involvement here is arguably as exciting as Isaac's, in certain respects. The former has a proven knack for crafting ghoulish yet family-friendly narratives, whereas Vernon has demonstrated a talent for putting satirical and subversive spins on popular animated film concepts.
