Orphan co-stars Isabelle Fuhrman and Peter Sarsgaard reunite in a sweet image shared to Instagram. Orphan released back in 2009 and told the story of a young girl named Esther who was adopted by a couple following the loss of their unborn child. Things take a turn, however, as it's later revealed that Esther (whose real name is Leena) is actually a 33-year old woman with a condition that stunts her growth, meaning she physically resembles a 9-year old girl. Fuhrman starred as Esther, with Sarsgaard starring as her adoptive father, John. The film also saw Hawkeye's Vera Farmiga star as Esther's adoptive mother Kate.

Over the years, Orphan has garnered somewhat of a cult following, with many feeling that the film's unique and down-right bizarre plot was more than worthy of receiving the prequel treatment. For a while, an Orphan follow-up seemed to be off-the-table, until 2020 brought the announcement that Fuhrman would be returning to reprise her role in Orphan: First Kill. Details surrounding the highly anticipated sequel have been few and far between so far, with an exact date for the film's theatrical release also currently unconfirmed at this stage.

Now, in a sweet call-back to the first film, Fuhrman has shared a photo of her recent reunion with her Orphan co-star Sarsgaard. Furhman shared two images cropped side-by-side, one of which looks to be from the set of Orphan, while the other is a more recent photo of the pair sharing a sweet embrace and looking incredibly happy to be reunited. Referencing the film's twist, Furhman joked "Who looks older now?" in the caption. Check out Furhman's post below.

Sarsgaard's character John met a rather gruesome end at the hands of Esther, who stabbed her adoptive father multiple times, resulting in his death. Furhman, who is now 25-years-old, recently revealed that revisiting the character was somewhat disturbing for her, revealing that she found it difficult to play a child this time around, given that that was the "easy part" during the filming of the first film, as she was then just 12-years-old. It was also recently revealed that Orphan: First Kill will not rely on CGI in order to de-age its lead star, but instead will utilize a number of practical effects such as lighting and camera angles in order to convince audiences that Fuhrman's character is a young girl.

Both Furhman and Sarsgaard have come a long way since Orphan, and despite the fact that their relationship within the film is not so sweet, this reunion is likely to make Orphan fans smile. For now, it remains to be seen what the Orphan prequel will have in store for audiences and just how it will set up the events of the first film. While many patiently await updates on Orphan: First Kill, which is believed to have wrapped more than a year ago, audiences are hoping that it won't be too long until Esther/Leena is back on the big screen.
