The first images for Orphan Black: Echoes reveal the spinoff show's new characters. Set to debut on AMC in 2023, the upcoming sci-fi series is set in the same world as the original Orphan Black, which starred Tatiana Maslany as a woman who discovers she might be a clone. This conceit, which shifted and twisted over time, allowed Maslany to play several characters, and often in the same scene. The show, which built into a big conspiracy, ran for five seasons. It also earned an Emmy win for Maslany, and the mix of awards recognition and audience acclaim led to a media franchise that has included comic books and a Japanese remake.

Back in July, it was announced that the Orphan Black world would expand again, as Jessica Jones star Krysten Ritter signed on to be the lead in Orphan Black: Echoes. The news was big, as it marked Ritter's return to AMC for the first time since her pivotal role as Jane Margolis in Breaking Bad. It also marked Ritter's first major television role since the conclusion of Jessica Jones in 2019.

Decider has now unveiled the first official photos of Orphan Black: Echoes. The images, which are included below, show Ritter as Lucy. She seems to have a cut on her head as she's sitting beside Charlie, who is played by Zariella Langford. Another image shows Lucy meeting up with Jack (Avan Jogia), potentially secretly. The last image reveals a glimpse of another actor: Keely Hawes, who is well-known for her role as Lindsay Denton in the British drama Line of Duty.

What is Orphan Black: Echoes About?

From what has been shared about the spinoff so far, it's known that Orphan Black: Echoes is set in the future. Taking a deep-dive into the exploration of how to scientifically manipulate human existence, the series follows a group of women who cross paths and head down the road that uncovers the mystery of their identity. Consisting of 10 episodes, the spinoff is created by Anna Fishko and includes original Orphan Black co-creator John Fawcett as an executive producer. The project is in production in Toronto, Canada.

While there is a lot that has yet to be revealed, including the specifics of Ritter's character and her place in the narrative, the name-recognition of both her and the franchise means there will be a lot more attention on the spinoff the closer it gets to debuting. To many fans, the original started off strong and lost its focus as it went along. But if Orphan Black: Echoes kicks off with a similarly rousing start, viewers could be in for a great run of episodes.
