Actress Julia Stiles teased another mind-blowing twist for upcoming prequel Orphan: First Kill. The long-awaited follow-up to 2009's Orphan will feature the return of Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther AKA Leena Klammer, an Estonian orphan who uses her ability to look extremely young to her deadly advantage. The original film followed Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard as Kate and John Coleman, a loving couple looking to adopt a young daughter. Unbeknownst to them, though, is that Esther is actually a 33-year old killer.

Orphan: First Kill, which first went into development in 2020, will be going back in time, serving as an origin story for Esther. The movie will follow her as she breaks out of an Estonian psychiatric facility and makes her way to the United States, entangling another family in her deadly games. Orphan: First Kill's director has touted the film as brutal and extremely violent and now Stiles has added her own tease ahead of the film's release.

In an interview with Collider, the actress says that she was hesitant to join the film because she is not particularly a fan of the horror genre. When Stiles read the script, though, everything changed. The actress says that she was unable to put it down and that the twist really surprised her. Stiles went on to describe the film as "incredibly psychological," something she preferred because of her distaste for the typical "blood and gore" in horror films.

I do not watch horror movies and when I was sent the script for it I was like, ‘I don’t know. I’m not into that genre.’ And I was also really worried about going back to work after COVID. And the script was so dang good, I couldn’t put it down and I was so surprised by the twist that I’m not gonna give away that I think you’ll like it.

It’s incredibly psychological. I’m not really interested in blood and gore. I find it gross, but I don’t find it really scary. What I find scary is the stuff that happens up here. And Isabelle Fuhrman’s character, Esther - although she has multiple names, Leena, I don’t know - it’s just such a fascinating - especially now because she’s a grown-up. She’s 23 now playing the same part. It’s just such a fascinating sociopathic character, along the lines of why Norman Bates was so interesting to watch.

Topping the original film's twist is a tall order for Orphan: First Kill. Coming at just the right moment, Esther revealed that she was a 33 year old woman by attempting to seduce Sarsgaard's patriarch. When he threatens to send her back to the orphanage, Esther brutally murders him by stabbing him several times. Now that viewers know Esther's origins and real age, crafting a new twist will be difficult and it may or may not have to do with her character.

Of course, since Orphan: First Kill is an origin story, the writers could come up with something truly dastardly to bring up from Esther's past. Conversely, if it involves her new adoptive family in this film, that could end up surprising fans even more. One thing is clear, though: Esther won't be getting away easy this time. Fuhrman shared a photo from the set of Orphan: First Kill featuring her character covered in blood so while the Estonian may be younger in this film, Esther is just as deadly as she was in the original 2009 film.
