Orlando Bloom wants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, possibly as Captain Britain. The MCU has no shortage of movie stars at this stage in its life. Some of these (like any of Marvel's Chris') have now become stars as a result of their time as a Marvel superhero, while others stepped in as stars from day one. Even with this abundance of talent, they are always looking to add more big names, not only as heroes, but also as villains - just see Jake Gyllenhaal eyeing a spot in Spider-Man: Homecoming 2.

While at times it feels like every big name in Hollywood has already signed on to a major comic book property, there are plenty out there that have yet to do so. One of these actors is Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean star Orlando Bloom. He may have played some major heroes in his past work, but he's now set his sights on the MCU.

During an interview with BBC Radio 2 (via CBR), Bloom revealed his interest in joining the MCU. He says that he's never been specifically asked to be in one of Marvel Studios' movies, despite meeting with them. His reason behind not being part of the universe just yet is because of the timing, but now he appears to be ready - and wants to play Captain Britain.

I do read [Marvel Comics] a little bit. Who’s the British one? Captain Britain! There you go. Terrible costume, though, and you’ve also got Captain America so what you going to do? Captain Britain versus Captain America?

Bloom is certainly a major star, and if Marvel's met with him in the past as he says, then the odds of him eventually finding a role in the universe are even better. The interest now appears to be mutual, it may just be a matter of finding the right role for him. Captain Britain is the choice for Bloom though. There's been no real indications that Brian Braddock is in the plans for the MCU, and if he is Bloom isn't the only one who wants the role. Simon Pegg recently said he'd be interested in playing Britain's superhero, and so has Tom Hiddleston after years of playing Loki.

If it isn't Captain Britain and both Marvel and Bloom want this partnership to happen, there's plenty of other roles he could slide into. Assuming Bloom is more interested in being a hero, he could possibly fit as Nova or maybe even one of the leads in The Eternals. There's also villainous roles that could come his way. But, if he waits long enough, he could play Marvel's version of key X-Men or Fantastic Four characters. With his interest (particularly in Captain Britain) now expressed, it could just be a matter of time before Marvel officially brings Bloom into the fold.
