Sucker Punch writer Jordan Mychal Lemos has clarified a statement he made about a supposed The Order 1886 sequel, and he doesn't have good news for fans of the PlayStation-exclusive game. Lemos previously worked as a writer on Assassin's Creed: Odyssey - for which he was nominated for a Writers Guild of America award - and is now a writer on Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima.

The Order 1886, released in February 2015, is a third-person shooter developed by Ready At Dawn. The game was met with a largely mediocre reception upon release, as many expected it to be more than it was. Though graphically impressive, the game ended up being only about five to seven hours long and had story, gameplay and A.I. problems, leading many to believe it wasn't worth the price. In recent years, The Order 1886 has been getting some more love from the gaming community. Screen Rant included it in a 2017 list of the best PlayStation 4 exclusives, saying it was still the best looking game on the system at the time, even out-doing Uncharted 4 and Horizon: Zero Dawn - despite the latter coming in second on our list of the best video games of 2017.

Lemos is another member of the community whose opinion on The Order 1886 took a turn for the better. On an episode of the Gamerheads podcast, Lemos said going into the game expecting it to be essentially just a playable movie yielded an experience he loved. In a segment of the podcast that has now been removed by its creators, Lemos mentioned that he "guessed" Ready At Dawn was making a sequel. According to a post on the PS4 Reddit by user u/poklane, the Gamerheads host then asked Lemos if a sequel was really in development, to which he replied:

"Last I heard, yeah, they were actually doing a second one. So I don't know, like, if they were already having a development at that point, so they were like, 'Well, lets just keep going and hoping the next one's better, or people like it more,' kinda thing."

The quote spread to forums in posts like u/poklane's and to several gaming news outlets after the podcast was posted. Lemos took notice, and clarified his statement on Twitter. According to Lemos, he was just speaking based on articles about the idea of a sequel he'd seen last year, not based on any kind of insider knowledge.

It's disappointing to find out there wasn't something more to Lemos' statement. A sequel to The Order 1886 could potentially be very cool, if Ready At Dawn could take player feedback into account when developing the new game. Perhaps it's still not entirely out of the realm of possibility for some time in the future, but for now it's at least still unconfirmed.
