[Warning: SPOILERS for the first season of Orange Is the New Black follow]
When last we left Orange Is the New Black's naive, emotionally volatile protagonist Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), she was at the lowest point in her life. Only a few months into a yearlong prison sentence, almost everyone Piper cares about had turned their back on her – not to mention a mentally unstable meth-head was dead set on introducing her to the business end of a shiv. And yet things are probably about to get much worse.
After a period of much anticipation, a short preview for season 2 of the critically acclaimed Netflix series has been released alongside the new season of House of Cards. In addition to the trailer, the premiere date for Orange Is the New Black has been officially announced, with new episodes arriving on June 6th, 2014.
Short to the point of frustration, this first trailer serves primarily to whet the appetites of those that enthusiastically consumed Orange Is the New Black over the previous year. Fan-favorite characters – Pornstache! Red! Taystee! Crazy Eyes! – check in during the preview, but nothing is revealed regarding the direction of this new season.
While this is appreciated in terms of eventual surprises, it does fail to scratch the itch that began in fans during the closing moments of the first season. After all, the previously meek Piper will soon have to face the consequences of the brutal retribution she meted out against Pennsatucky. It will no doubt be fascinating to watch those consequences unfold in June, but at least a hint would help ease our curiosity.
Created by Jenji Kohan (Weeds), Orange Is the New Black boasts a large ensemble cast that includes Jason Biggs (American Reunion), Laura Prepon (How I Met Your Mother), Kate Mulgrew (Star Trek: Voyager), Uzo Aduba (Blue Bloods), Danielle Brooks (Girls), and Michelle Hurst (Frances Ha), among many others.
Orange Is the New Black will return to Netflix on June 6th, 2014.
