Cillian Murphy is leading the star-studded cast of Oppenheimer in the titular role alongside Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Kenneth Branagh, David Dastmalchian, Gary Oldman, and Casey Affleck, among many others.

Everything The Oppenheimer Trailer Tells Us About Nolan's Film

While the Oppenheimer trailer may keep much of the film's actual action under wraps, one of the more interesting takeaways is the presentation of the story. Previous trailers and images released for the film pointed towards Nolan's biopic being in a black-and-white format, a format audiences were intrigued to see the Oscar nominee explore, especially given it's been over 20 years since he tackled said style with 2000's Memento. However, much like the Guy Pearce-led thriller, Oppenheimer appears to be a blend of both color and black-and-white presentation, though whether it retains the same formula for the latter representing flashbacks is currently unknown.

Another intriguing takeaway from the Oppenheimer trailer is the sheer level of practical effects Nolan is bringing to exploring the story of the father of the atomic bomb. As with his previous works, Nolan has sought to bring little-to-no CGI in creating many of the film's explosive sequences, most notably that of the Trinity nuclear test, which he described as one of the most challenging of his career to recreate through solely practical effects. While the Oppenheimer trailer mostly keeps said nuclear test under wraps, it does offer glimpses of the groundbreaking explosion, and the various ones leading up to the big drop, to keep audiences on the edge of their seats until the film's release.

One of the biggest takeaways from the Oppenheimer trailer is the film's star-studded cast, much of whom continue to remain under wraps. Though it gives first looks at The Boys' Jack Quaid as physicist Richard Feynman, Damon as Lieutenant General Leslie Groves and Josh Peck as physicist Kenneth Bainbridge, it continues to keep Blunt's Kitty Oppenheimer, Downey Jr.'s businessman Lewis Strauss and Pugh's physician/psychiatrist Jean Tatlock hidden, among others, surprising considering their key natures to the film's story. Only time will tell when audiences might get their first glimpses at the rest of the A-list ensemble leading up to Oppenheimer's July 21 release.
