Oppenheimer set photos show stars Emily Blunt and Cillian Murphy shooting at a new location. Christopher Nolan’s latest tackles the story of atomic bomb inventor J. Robert Oppenheimer, played by Batman Begins star Murphy. Blunt joins Murphy in the role of Kitty Oppenheimer.

But indeed those two big-name stars are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Oppenheimer’s truly impressive cast. The rundown of famous players also includes Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Kenneth Branagh, Gary Oldman (who is shooting just a single scene), David Dastmalchian, Dane DeHaan, Alden Ehrenreich, Jason Clarke, Bennie Safdie and many more. It’s no surprise of course that Nolan is keeping his newest film shrouded in secrecy, only releasing a single official image showing Murphy’s Oppenheimer in close-up.

All that Nolan-esque secrecy naturally has fans more than a little curious about what the director has up his sleeve with his latest opus. Luckily, those fans can now get a little taste of Oppenheimer thanks to some leaked set photos posted by The Daily Mail. In the images, Murphy and Blunt can be seen shooting exteriors on the movie’s New Jersey filming location. There are also some shots of the maestro Nolan himself working behind-the-scenes. Cillian Murphy as Oppenheimer

This latest set of photos in fact comes on the heels of another recent leak showing Downey Jr. and Murphy working at a different location. Blunt too was featured in a previous set of BTS photos that also featured Murphy and Damon. Obviously all the images in question show the actors wearing period garb and sporting appropriate hairstyles. The shots also give little away in terms of story details.

But of course the broad story of J. Robert Oppenheimer is no big secret. When the United States set out to develop an atomic bomb during World War II, Oppenheimer was put in charge of the top-secret Manhattan Project, and dispatched to Los Alamos, New Mexico to supervise the world-changing operation. While the subject matter of Oppenheimer is clearly not in question, what isn’t known is how exactly Nolan will tackle this particular bit of pivotal 20th Century history. Nolan of course is renowned for his time-bending narratives in movies like Memento, Dunkirk and Tenet, but whether such storytelling tricks may be employed in Oppenheimer is still anyone’s guess. The few set photos that have leaked surely give nothing away as regards Nolan’s approach, beyond confirming that the film will feature the attention to period detail one would expect from a World War II-era biopic directed by the ever-meticulous Nolan.
