Jason Statham and Aubrey Plaza team up for a job in the new trailer for Guy Ritchie’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre. Ritchie’s latest action opus also stars Josh Hartnett, Hugh Grant, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone, Lourdes Faberes and Max Beesley.

Statham of course is no stranger to the world of Ritchie having previously starred in multiple movies for the director including Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Revolver and most recently Wrath of Man. Statham’s Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre co-star Plaza on the other hand is a stranger to Ritchie’s world, and indeed the world of action films in general, having made her name as the ever-disdainful April Ludgate in the classic sitcom Parks and Recreation as well as a string of quirky and offbeat independent movies. In Operation Fortune, Statham and Plaza’s seemingly mismatched characters team up to take down a billionaire arms dealer (Grant) with help from blackmailed Hollywood star Danny Francesco (Hartnett).

It remains to be seen if Plaza can successfully cross over from her usual oddball comedic fare to the world of action films. But in the first trailer for Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, the Ingrid Goes West actress looks right at home as she verbally spars with Statham while also getting to shoot guns and do other action movie things she normally doesn’t get to do. Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre indeed looks like classic Ritchie with its big action set pieces, rough-around-the-edges characters and fast-paced banter. The change up here is obviously the plot, which introduces the element of the Hollywood movie star played by Hartnett who is shadowing Grant’s arms dealer character after being blackmailed into joining the operation (the reason for Hartnett’s character being vulnerable to blackmail is revealed in the trailer and it’s very gross). Plaza’s character meanwhile seems like a very commanding presence in the movie who is able to go toe-to-toe with Statham, who obviously represents the classic Bond-like character at the center of everything. It’s also fun seeing Grant back in the fold, playing another sleazy character like the one he portrayed in Ritchie’s The Gentlemen. Indeed Grant seems to be enjoying his new role as a member of Ritchie’s unofficial repertory company.

It will be fascinating to see how all these actors blend together in Ritchie’s latest action-packed ensemble piece. Most interesting of all of course is Plaza, who is finally making the leap into the action genre after years of creating offbeat characters in mostly small movies where no one shoots anyone. Operation Fortune: Ruse de guerre is set to hit theaters in 2022.
