Screen Rant is proud to premiere an exclusive clip from the upcoming film, Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls. From the mind of Andrew Bowser, an 80s kid who loved all things fantasy and genre, the character of Onyx launched in 2012 and it quickly took off in viral videos leading him to be known as "The Weird Satanist Guy" or "The Weird Arby's Guy." The film is the product of a successful Kickstarter campaign that saw over 7,000 backers pledge more than $600,000 dollars to see it come to fruition. Bowser wrote and directed Onyx the Fortuitous, in which he'll star alongside Olivia Taylor Dudley (The Magicians), Jeffrey Combs (The Frighteners), Melanie Chandra, Arden Myrin, Barbara Crampton, Ralph Ineson, Rivkah Reyes, and T.C. Carson. Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls premieres at the Sundance Film Festival on January 22.

Marcus J. Trillbury (Bowser), aka Onyx the Fortuitous, is an amateur occultist who is misunderstood both in his home and work life. He dreams of a fresh start, and when he receives a highly coveted invitation to the home of his idol Bartok the Great (Combs), he thinks that finally his dreams are being answered. Onyx joins the eccentric group of devotees surrounding Bartok and his mysterious delegate Farrah (Dudley) as they prepare for a mysterious ceremony. However, it quickly becomes clear that something is amiss, and Onyx and the other devotees find themselves in a fight to retain their souls. They will all be forced to decide just how much they will sacrifice in order to meet their destiny. Screen Rant is proud to present this first look at Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls.

In this exclusive clip presented by Screen Rant, Onyx and the other admirers of Bartok the Great have just arrived at his mansion. Immediately they are met with a surprising revelation, Bartok is dead on the floor. Speaking to them from beyond the grave courtesy of an old CRT TV, Bartok invites them to check his pulse to see that he has indeed passed. With it confirmed, the Bartok in the video entreats them all to resurrect him with a simple chant of "Let Him Rise" They enthusiastically agree, and begin chanting, only for Bartok to sit in front of them, gasping for breath. Bartok the Great has risen again, but at what cost?

In the film, Bowser takes his viral internet character to the next level. The film promises to expand on the internet sensation's homage to the genre in the 80s, full of absurdities and the celebration of the weirdos among us. Inspired by films like Ghostbusters, Gremlins, and Fright Night, Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls builds on themes of friendship while delivering laughs and scares in a magical story featuring terrifying monsters and just a little Satanic worship.

The film will be part of the Midnight segment of the Festival, which promises a wide variety of films from comedy to horror that are sure to keep viewers awake at the small hours.
