Mabel seems to be falling for Alice in Only Murders in the Building season 2, but what does Alice want with her? Cara Delevigne stars as one of Only Murders in the Building season 2's new characters, an artist who approaches Mabel via social media to invite her to her gallery. Due to the attention she's getting from her arrest, Mabel is hounded upon her arrival, but Alice swoops in to protect her, stopping a man from taking a selfie with her. Alice immediately positions herself as a protector, and, as reported before the season began, Delevigne's character will serve as a love interest for Selena Gomez's Mabel.
This comes to fruition in Only Murders in the Building episode 2 when Mabel returns to Alice's gallery. Alice has built a sculpture representing her feelings surrounding Mabel, and she promptly lets Mabel destroy it with an ax. All the while, Alice is taping Mabel while she takes out her anger on the sculpture. The two share a passionate kiss afterward, but this relationship could be bad news for Mabel.
While Alice isn't one of the many suspects in Only Murders in the Building season 2, her intentions may not be pure. Alice's filming of Mabel destroying the sculpture is curious and framed in such a way that it evokes suspicion. When considering the fact that Alice is well aware of Mabel's social media phenomenon as #BloodyMabel, it seems like Alice could be filming this material to eventually release it. That could spell trouble for Mabel, as violently swinging an ax in a viral video is not a good look for anyone who is a person of interest in a murder investigation.
Even if Alice doesn't intend to post the video, it's possible it could leak and still cause trouble for Mabel. One of the main themes of Only Murders in the Building season 2 has been its commentary on the media circus surrounding the events of the first season. From the Mabel hashtag to Amy Schumer (who is playing herself) wanting to produce a show based on the series' events, Only Murders has pointed to the trio's increasing infamy. This will likely increase even more as the season progresses since Oliver, Mabel, and Charles are producing a sequel to their hit podcast. After Only Murders in the Building season 1 showed superfans camping out in front of The Arconia, an increased media circus would be a logical continuation of that. Regardless of whether the video of Mabel leaks, these circumstances still put her in a vulnerable position.
With what Mabel is going through, she will likely be attracted to someone who protects her and treats her like an average person - namely not a high-profile figure involved in a murder investigation. Mabel's love life has already been tumultuous, and if Alice were to exploit her, this could only hurt her further. While a crime show like Only Murders in the Building breeds paranoia and suspicion, the circumstances surrounding Alice and Mabel's meeting are still rather unusual, and it seems like Alice may not have Mabel's best interests at heart.
