Just a couple of months after her casting was confirmed for the show, the first Only Murders in the Building season 3 teaser reveals Meryl Streep's arrival. The Hulu series centers on a trio of neighbors living in the same apartment building who come together through their shared love of true-crime podcasts, only to find themselves pulled into multiple mysteries putting their own lives at risk at they make their own podcast. Led by Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, Only Murders in the Building has scored rave reviews across its first two seasons.

Nearly a year after the show's previous return, Hulu has revealed the first Only Murders in the Building season 3 teaser.

The video, as seen above, doesn't show too much of the new season for the hit series, though does offer the first look at Meryl Streep's arrival. The Only Murders in the Building season 3 teaser also offers the first look at Paul Rudd's return following his cameo appearance in the season 2 finale.

What The OMITB Season 3 Teaser Says About Streep's Role

Meryl Streep Only Murders in the Building

Though the Only Murders in the Building season 3 teaser may not reveal much in the way of the season's overall arc, it does offer some insight for what's to come from Streep's arrival. The footage shows Streep taking part in a table read of the script for the Broadway play that Short's Oliver was revealed to be directing at the end of Only Murders in the Building season 2, where Paul Rudd's seeming demise occurred.

Eagle-eyed viewers are sure to note the name placard in front of Streep in the Only Murders in the Building season 3 teaser features two names, indicating she may be playing both an actor and a character in Oliver's play. Though the placard is just out of focus in the footage, it does seem to read a different name than the Oscar-winning star's, seemingly indicating she will not be playing a fictionalized version of herself, as was the case with both Amy Schumer and Sting in prior seasons of the hit show.

It's currently unclear the extent of Streep's importance heading into Only Murders in the Building season 3, though it seems unlikely she would be just a bit player in the Hulu show. The season 2 finale saw Martin's Charles-Haden warn Rudd's Ben to stay away from an unidentified "her," which theories initially pointed towards his daughter, though considering Streep's involvement in the play seems just as likely to be her character he's warning against messing with. Given prior seasons of the show premiered just over a year after filming began, it seems likely audiences will have to wait until 2024 to learn more about Streep's role in Only Murders in the Building season 3.
