OnePlus just turned eight years old, and in very typical 2021 fashion, the company's celebrating by giving away a bunch of NFTs. This past year has been a busy one for OnePlus. The company started 2021 on a high note with the launch of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. It also expanded its budget lineup with the OnePlus N200 5G, launched the excellent OnePlus Buds Pro, and entered the smartwatch niche with the OnePlus Watch.

That all sounds like a pretty standard affair for any major tech company. Compared to years past, however, the OnePlus of today is dramatically different from where it started. In 2014, the OnePlus 1 was the only product to come out of OnePlus. 2015 was quiet as well, with OnePlus just releasing the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus X. Each successive year has seen OnePlus grow a little bit bigger and more mainstream — with the company eventually getting to the point where it is today.

In honor of that growth and its founding back in December 2013, OnePlus is doing something interesting for its eighth birthday. Starting today, December 17, OnePlus is giving away thousands of OnePlus-themed NFTs. As noted in the company's press release"OnePlus aims to reward its enthusiasts with exclusive digital collectibles that memorialize 15 past OnePlus devices, beginning with the OnePlus 1 and leading all the way up to the brand’s most recent flagship device, the OnePlus 9 Pro."

How To Win These OnePlus NFTs

Examples of OnePlus NFTs

For anyone interested in scooping up one of the NFTs for themselves, entering the giveaway is pretty easy. All folks have to do is follow OnePlus's Instagram account and redeem daily entries every 24 hours on NFT marketplace Sweet.io. OnePlus says there are just 5,000 of these NFTs in existence, and once they're gone, they're gone for good.

As for the design of these NFTs, OnePlus worked with 3D designers Shannon Zhao and Elis Ekdah. There are 15 different images available, and each comes with its own rarity (common, rare, ultimate rare, and secret rare). Each image also represents a different milestone in OnePlus history. The OnePlus 1 NFT shows the phone and its iconic bamboo back, along with mentions of 'Cyanogen OS' and 'Invite Only.' The OnePlus 8 Pro NFT reminds of its focus on gaming performance with a few Fortnite references.

Considering this is OnePlus's first big push into the NFT space, it'll be interesting to see how the community reacts to all of this. On the one hand, there are some people praising NFTs as the next big thing for digital art. On the opposite end of the aisle, others are slamming the technology for being a scam and harmful to the environment. The reception to this giveaway is bound to be extremely mixed, but at the very least, OnePlus is bound to get a lot of people talking about it.
