Ahead of its launch on Feb. 7, OnePlus has revealed that the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will support Google's Android Spatial Audio feature. The new earbuds will get a global release along with the flagship OnePlus 11 smartphone and succeeds the premium OnePlus Buds Pro wireless earphones that the company released in 2021.

Just like the company's 2023 flagship, OnePlus has already released the Buds Pro 2 in China. So while there weren't expected to be any major surprises, the new feature reveal is certainly a welcome announcement before the device's global launch. According to OnePlus, the new pair of earbuds will be “one of the first True Wireless Earbuds (TWS) with Google Android's Spatial Audio” and provide an enhanced audio experience with supported smartphones.

Google announced last year that devices with Android 13 would get native support for Spatial Audio, starting with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7. Multiple Android smartphone manufacturers, like Samsung and Sony, support Spatial Audio on their devices, but native support on Android is helpful. With OnePlus confirming the Buds Pro 2 will also get this feature, owners with a compatible device can enjoy 360-degree audio when listening to supported content.

OnePlus says it has collaborated with Google to optimize the spatial audio on the Buds Pro 2 to mimic a theater-like experience. The company says a combination of its spatial rendering algorithm and IMU sensor allows the pair of earbuds to provide a next-level spatial audio experience. Although OnePlus didn't state in its press release if this Spatial Audio version has head-tracking support, users should get Dolby Atmos with head-tracking since it's available on the Chinese model. Head-tracking is a feature where the direction of the audio should change when a person moves their head.

The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will also support Google Fast Pair. This is a feature that was missing from the previous generation of its premium earbuds. Instead, the OnePlus Buds Pro, as well as its cheaper siblings, the Nord Buds and Nord Buds CE support OnePlus Fast Pair, which only works with compatible OnePlus smartphones. With support for Google Fast Pair, users can quickly pair the earbuds with a supported device, regardless of the manufacturer.

It will also support Android's Audio Switching, which allows a connection to multiple Android devices linked to the same Google account. The OnePlus Buds Pro 2 will auto-switch between these devices depending on the action that's taking place. For instance, audio should auto-switch to a tablet when watching a video and switch to a phone when a call comes in. All these features make the OnePlus Buds Pro 2 a worthy upgrade from its predecessor.
