Following three announcements for its design, specs, and camera features, OnePlus has finally launched the OnePlus 10 Pro — that is, in one country at least. The first half of the new year is always an exciting time in the tech space. This is when Samsung announces its latest Galaxy S, OnePlus launches its latest flagship handset, and Apple usually unveils a new Mac or iPad.

Last year saw OnePlus's flagship lineup take shape as the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro. The two phones launched alongside each other with a lot of identical specs — including the same processor, battery capacity, wired charging speeds, and more. Among the two devices, the more expensive OnePlus 9 Pro stood out as the better overall handset. Thanks to a top-tier display, strong camera performance, and a fairly reasonable price, it was a worthy contender to the best handsets from Samsung and Apple.

About a week ago, OnePlus first announced the OnePlus 10 Pro as its latest flagship device — along with a first look at its design. The days since have seen OnePlus continue to trickle out information about the phone. Its specs were confirmed on January 4, as were its new camera capabilities on January 6. Now, on January 10, OnePlus is officially launching the OnePlus 10 Pro to its customers in China. Sales for the phone are set to begin on January 13 with two color variants — including Volcanic Black and Emerald Forest.

Interestingly enough, OnePlus isn't commenting on the availability of the OnePlus 10 Pro in other countries. All it's saying right now is that the 10 Pro "will launch globally later in 2022." One can safely assume that includes the United States, but there's currently no mention of when in 2022 it's coming out or how much it'll cost. It could be within a matter of weeks, a month from now, or not until April — the same month the OnePlus 9 series hit the U.S. last year.

Why is OnePlus releasing the OnePlus 10 Pro like this? Who knows. It could be related to the ongoing chip shortage and only having enough components for a launch in one market right now. It may also just be part of OnePlus's lengthy marketing for the phone. OnePlus trickled out 10 Pro information via four press releases over the past week. If it can have one launch now and another later on in the year, it could be a way to build more hype for the device.

Whatever the answer is, there's reason to be excited when that global launch date does finally come. Based on what OnePlus has shown us at this point, the OnePlus 10 Pro looks like a pretty killer device. It has a refreshing design, Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, and OnePlus is touting big camera improvements over the 9 Pro. If all of that lives up to the marketing buzz, the OnePlus 10 Pro may very well be worth this confusing announcement cycle.
