CEO Pete Lau has announced that the company’s next flagship — the OnePlus 10 Pro — will make its official debut in January, a healthy couple of months ahead of the usual launch window. To recall, the OnePlus 9 Pro was launched late in March this year, while the OnePlus 8 Pro was unveiled in the second week of April last year. The company does tend to hold a second event in the latter half of the year where it unveils the ‘T’ refresh of its existing phones.

As for the phone itself, leakers have been busy revealing everything from high-resolution renders to detailed specifications of the upcoming OnePlus flagship. Alleged CAD-based renders show an unchanged look for the screen aesthetics, while the rear panel has received a major makeover. The wide camera island rocks a glossy finish and appears to slope alongside the left edge, somewhat similar to the Samsung Galaxy S21.

With leaks routinely popping up, Lau took to Weibo and announced that the OnePlus 10 Pro will break cover in January next year. The OnePlus chief, who now also leads Oppo’s phone efforts following a massive internal rejig, didn’t mention anything about the vanilla OnePlus 10. The standard OnePlus 10 has also been leaked heavily over the past few weeks. Given the company’s past history of launching two phones simultaneously, the OnePlus 10 will most likely tag alongside its Pro sibling next month. In addition to flagships, OnePlus is also prepping a budget phone called the OnePlus Nord N20. With an iPhone-esque design that was recently leaked, the Nord N20 is also expected to launch in the coming months.

OnePlus 9 Pro curved display

The OnePlus 10 Pro will be among the first wave of Android phones to adopt Qualcomm’s new flagship chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Up front is a curved 6.7-inch OLED display that supports 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is not the best that the Android phone segment has to offer—144Hz panels are already out there—but 120Hz certainly gets the job done. The battery capacity has reportedly increased to 5,000 mAh, complete with support for an impressive 80W wired fast charging, and wireless charging at 50W peak output. The fingerprint sensor sits underneath the OLED panel, while the hole-punch cutout at the top houses a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

In total, there are expected to be three snappers included on the back, but not much appears to have changed when compared to the OnePlus 9 Pro. A 48-megapixel primary camera takes the lead, while a 50-megapixel ultrawide-angle camera appears to have been carried over from its predecessor. Finally, there’s an optically stabilized 8-megapixel telephoto camera that delivers 3x optical zoom output, similar to the iPhone 13 Pro. The Hasselblad camera partnership is here to stay for another generation, but it remains to be seen if the two companies have cooked up any new camera tricks for the upcoming OnePlus 10 series.
