Looking to one-up the rumor mill and kick off CES 2022 with a bang, OnePlus just revealed the official design and initial launch details of the OnePlus 10 Pro. There are certain flagship smartphones everyone looks forward to each year. Samsung launches a new Galaxy S, Apple comes out with new iPhones, and Google keeps things churning with annual Pixels. Among those brands, there's also OnePlus.
In the first half of each year, OnePlus debuts its latest flagship creation. 2021 saw the release of the OnePlus 9 and 9 Pro, which were preceded by the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro in 2020. Last year's OnePlus 9 Pro was an especially enticing handset. It touted a large 120Hz display, vastly upgraded Hasselblad cameras, a huge battery, and wickedly fast charging times. It was a phone that felt like it could compete on every level with the best from Samsung and Apple — and that was further evident by the increased $1,069 asking price.
Less than a year since the OnePlus 9 Pro's release last March, OnePlus is already flaunting the OnePlus 10 Pro. The company shared the above photo of the phone on January 3 to confirm its existence and reveal the all-new design. Just like the leaks suggested, the OnePlus 10 Pro looks a lot like OnePlus's take on the Galaxy S21 design aesthetic. The rear camera housing flows seamlessly into the frame and looks like a natural continuation of the 10 Pro's body. That camera housing still flaunts the Hasselblad logo, in addition to three camera sensors and an LED flash ring. The photo also confirms the OnePlus 10 Pro's black and green color options — both of which appear to have a matte finish.
The OnePlus 10 Pro Launches In China On January 11
Along with an official look at the OnePlus 10 Pro's design, OnePlus also confirmed the phone's release date. For customers in China, the phone officially launches on Tuesday, January 11 at 2:00 PM Hong Kong time. OnePlus has yet to share details on the 10 Pro's release in other countries, but it's expected to come to the U.S., Europe, and other markets shortly after. That's considerably earlier in the year than the OnePlus 9 Pro's March 23 release, which was already ahead of the usual April and May releases for OnePlus phones before that.
Although OnePlus isn't confirming any other details quite yet, plentiful leaks/rumors provide a more complete look at what the OnePlus 10 Pro might offer. A report in December suggested the phone will have Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor, a 120Hz 6.7-inch OLED display, 12GB of RAM, and 80W wired charging — a considerable upgrade over the already snappy 65W charging on the OnePlus 9 Pro.
OnePlus already has a strong foundation with the OnePlus 9 Pro. If the 10 Pro is more of the same with a few upgrades here and there, that sounds like a pretty compelling package. However, it may come down to a battle of cost. OnePlus phones increase in price every single year. If OnePlus sells the 10 Pro for more than $1,069 while Google is selling the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro for $599 and $899, respectively, that may be a tough pill to swallow.
