OnePlus is continuing its controlled drip of OnePlus 10 Pro information — this time sharing official specs/features for the phone's camera system. CES 2022 is now well underway. While this year's trade show has been tamer and scaled back compared to previous years, that's not to say there haven't been any announcements. Samsung announced the Galaxy S21 FE, Hisense revealed its new lineup of Mini LED TVs, and Intel showcased a slew of new 12th Gen CPUs.

Alongside all of that, OnePlus has also had a constant presence during CES. The company announced the OnePlus 10 Pro on January 3 and unveiled its official design. Then, on January 4, OnePlus confirmed many of the phone's top specs — including a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, 5000 mAh battery, and 80W wired charging. OnePlus also announced some of the 10 Pro's camera details, confirming a 48MP primary camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, an 8MP telephoto camera. Fast forward to January 6, and OnePlus has now shared what these new cameras will actually be capable of.

Building upon its upgraded color tuning introduced with the OnePlus 9 Pro, the OnePlus 10 Pro introduces what OnePlus is calling its 'Billion Color Solution.' It takes the Natural Color Calibration released last year and applies it to over a billion colors. This makes the 10 Pro the first OnePlus smartphone capable of capturing full 10-bit color with its photos — with that applying to all three camera sensors. Compared to the 9 Pro, the OnePlus 10 Pro also captures 25 percent more DCI-P3 colors and can process 64x more colors in general. If this works as OnePlus claims, it should result in substantially more natural and 'delicate' colors across all three sensors.

Perhaps even more exciting, the OnePlus 10 Pro adds an all-new shooting mode called 'RAW+.' Like Apple ProRAW, RAW+ captures images in a RAW format with the OnePlus 10 Pro's "computational photography elements" still intact. Similarly, RAW shooting is now possible with the primary, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras on the 10 Pro (something reserved just for the primary camera on the OnePlus 9 Pro). Speaking of the ultra-wide camera, this year's sensor is now upgraded to a 150° FoV. OnePlus says this is "up to four times wider than traditional ultra-wide cameras" and "allows users to capture even more in their shots." Users can switch to a 110° mode if the 150° view is too much, or enable the new Fisheye Mode to "replicate the look of dedicated fisheye cameras."

Last but certainly not least, OnePlus is also addressing video recording with its new Movie Mode. Movie Mode grants OnePlus 10 Pro users much greater control over their filming, offering adjustments to things like ISO and shutter speed. This also allows users to record videos in LOG for improved dynamic range and easier editing.

While a lot of testing needs to happen before we can make any final judgments, these all sound like welcome improvements for the OnePlus 10 Pro. Last year's OnePlus 9 Pro didn't have a bad camera system. In fact, it was actually quite good. If OnePlus has improved the colors as much as it claims, that alone should make the 10 Pro worth shooting with. Combined with the much wider ultra-wide camera and RAW+ mode, and there's potentially a lot to like here.
