Samsung's Galaxy S22-series and the Galaxy Tab S8-series ship with One UI 4.1 out-of-the-box, bringing notable changes and upgrades over One UI 4.0. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S22-series of smartphones and the Galaxy Tab S8-series of tablets earlier this month with top-end hardware and many new features. They also run the latest version of Android with Samsung's proprietary user interface on top.

One UI is Samsung's latest software skin for its Android devices. It was first unveiled with Android 9 Pie in 2018 as an upgrade over the Samsung Experience UX that the company was using over a previous couple of years. Before that, the company used the TouchWiz interface, which often received flak from users for being bloated and laggy. Thankfully, One UI brings all the best features of Samsung's earlier Android skins, but in a much faster and more intuitive avatar.

One UI 4.1 is strikingly similar to One UI 4.0, both in terms of design and functionality. There are, however, a few additional features in the newer version, including an enhanced RAM Plus feature, which deals with the amount of virtual RAM in a device. With One UI 4.0, machines could only convert up to 4GB of built-in storage to virtual RAM, while One UI 4.1 lets users choose how much virtual RAM they want. But, of course, when the devices have a lot of actual RAM, they are unlikely to need too much additional 'virtual' RAM to begin with.

Smart Calendar, Smart Widgets, And More

Apart from the enhanced virtual RAM feature, another notable change in One UI 4.1 is the addition of smart features to Samsung's native calendar app to aid productivity. According to Samsung, the app can now read dates and times in recent messages and suggest them as events. The company says that it works with several third-party apps, including KakaoTalk, Line, WhatsApp, Hangout, Facebook Messenger, Viber, Google Chat and Signal, but it's unclear whether other apps, such as Zoom or Skype, are also supported.

One UI 4.1 also makes Samsung Pay more useful with the ability to store drivers' licenses, boarding passes, car keys, movie tickets and more. The app was previously only capable of storing credit cards, debit cards and loyalty cards, but the enhanced functionality now brings it on par with Google Pay and Apple Wallet. There are also smart widgets that can be stacked on top of one another, with users able to switch between them with swipes. Another significant change in One UI 4.1 is in the camera department, where the 'Pro' mode is now available for all cameras at the back. Until One UI 4.0, it was only available with the primary and ultra-wide shooters, but now it's also available with telephoto lenses.
