After three long years, the second season of the hit anime One-Punch Man finally has an official release date and plot synopsis. One-Punch Man began life as an online comic back in 2009, and by 2012 it had surpassed 7.9 million hits. It quickly became a digital manga series, which then received an anime adaptation that aired in Japan starting in October 2015.

The series almost instantly rose to become one of the most beloved anime in the world, joining the ranks of popularity among series like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, One Piece, and more. The hero of One-Punch Man, Saitama, has likewise been accepted into the group of anime's greatest protagonists such as Goku and Naruto. A second season was announced back in 2016, but with no word on when it might be released. Thankfully, fans won't have to wait much longer to get more of the anime.

Viz Media announced today that One-Punch Man season 2 is scheduled to premiere in April 2019. They posted an official teaser trailer as well as a key visual featuring Saitama, his apprentice Genos, and new villain Garou. The teaser mainly shows a series of clips from the anime's first season, but then moves on to some new dialogue. A voice calls out that it's "Time to carry out evil. This'll be a slaughter party!" This could possibly be newcomer Garou, who's been described as "a man utterly fascinated by monsters." Take a look:

No new footage from the upcoming second season is shown in the teaser, but Viz Media did release an official plot synopsis. "The great seer Madame Shibabawa’s prediction about the Earth being doomed seems to be coming true as the frequency of monster incidents escalates. Alongside Genos, his faithful disciple, Saitama begins his official hero duties as a member of the Hero Association, while Garou makes his appearance." The first season of the series concluded with Saitama battling the evil Lord Boros, being pushed so far as to only being able to defeat him by using his "Serious Punch". If any upcoming monsters are stronger than Boros, the Hero Association may be in for a world of trouble.

Saitama is a hero who has undergone special training and grown so strong that he can defeat any enemy with a single punch. Unfortunately, Saitama's awesome strength is also a curse; the hero has become bored and frustrated over the fact that he has no strong opponents to fight. There is no monster or villain that's ever been a real challenge for Saitama, but after his destructive battle with Lord Boros, it looked like things were looking up for the most powerful man in the universe. Sadly, the next monster that comes his way is defeated by a simple solitary punch, much to Saitama's dismay.

It remains to be seen if the next onslaught of monsters will finally present a challenge for Saitama, but the new season looks geared up to push the hero to his seemingly bottomless limit. The cast for season 2 features all of the heroes introduced in the first and, should Saitama ever run into any trouble, they may be able to step up and prove their worth. One-Punch Man became known for its perfect blend of humor and beautifully animated action, and the new season should be no exception. Fans have less than a year now to wait, but that's plenty of time to prepare by re-watching the first season and engaging in Saitama's special training regime.
