Warning: Contains spoilers for One Piece Film: Red and One Piece volumes 101-104.Like many anime movies based on manga, One Piece Film: Red isn’t canon to the overarching plot of its series, but surprisingly enough, it does contain some spoilers for the latter half of the Wano arc and beyond. Red is meant to serve as both a celebration of One Piece’s 25th anniversary and the first big story in the franchise as the manga enters its final stages, so in that regard, it makes sense that it wouldn’t bother hiding things from people who only watch the anime, but it’s still something of an odd decision, regardless.

Whatever the case, One Piece Film: Red is framed in a way that, for the most part, has its story take place after the Wano arc, and this is a breakdown of each reference that goes along with that idea. Some spoilers listed have been known for up to a year at this point, and in the case of the first spoiler being discussed, it’s likely become widespread enough to the point that even a casual viewer would already be well aware of it. Others, however, are either comparatively more recent or simply big enough to be a major game changer for the series, which makes their inclusion in the movie all the more surprising, even if it was only briefly.

Jimbei Is A Member Of The Straw Hat Pirates

Jimbei in Wano

The first post-Wano reference in 2022's One Piece Film: Red, and likely the one that would be the easiest to recognize, is Jimbei being a member of the Straw Hat Pirates. While Jimbei formally cut ties with the Big Mom Pirates in the Whole Cake Island saga, he wasn’t able to join the Straw Hats because he and the Sun Pirates had to stay behind at Whole Cake Island to hold off the Big Mom Pirates while Luffy and everyone else escaped. Jimbei’s fate was left uncertain after that, but as the Straw Hats and their allies made their way to Onigashima, Jimbei appeared to assist in fighting some Animal Pirates and officially joined the Straw Hat Pirates as their helmsman.

Helmeppo Is A Member Of SWORD

Helmeppo

Another post-Wano spoiler in One Piece Film: RED is Helmeppo being a member of SWORD. SWORD is a faction within One Piece's Marines that appears to be tasked with going on covert missions, and with its original August release date in Japan, Red revealed that Helmeppo was a member of SWORD several months before the manga would do so in the Egghead Island arc. Not much is known about SWORD and the specifics of their operations, but they are stated to be rivals of CP0, something briefly alluded to in Red when Koby and Helmeppo meet with Blueno, who has joined CP0 since his defeat at Enies Lobby (via Twitter).

Zoro’s Great Grade Sword Enma

Zoro in One Piece Film: Red

As revealed in one of the trailers for One Piece Film: Red, one of the swords Zoro uses in the movie is the Great Grade Sword Enma. In exchange for returning Shusui to Shimotsuki Ryuma’s grave, Zoro was gifted Enma, one of the signature swords of One Piece's Kozuki Oden that was used to give Kaido his trademark scar. As a Great Grade Sword, Enma is one of the strongest swords in the world, but Enma’s will forces the user to constantly draw out their Armament Haki while wielding it. Naturally, that can prove fatal after prolonged use, but through his fights with Kaido and King, Zoro was able to gain control over Enma and make it his own.

Zoro’s King Of Hell Three Sword Style

Zoro vs King in One Piece.

In addition to Enma, another spoiler involving Zoro is the appearance of his King of Hell Three Sword Style in the final battle against Tot Musica. After figuring out how to properly wield Enma, Zoro became capable of using the King of Hell Three Sword Style, a variation of his regular fighting style that invokes the power of Advanced Conqueror’s Haki, something Zoro never realized he had before accidentally using it against Kaido. In One Piece King of Hell Three Sword Style is noted by the green aura that envelops Zoro’s swords, and with its power, he was more than capable of overwhelming King in their fight.

Sanji’s Ifrit Jambe Technique

Sanji using Ifrit Jambe against Queen

Another post-Wano reference in One Piece Film: Red in the final battle is Sanji’s Ifrit Jambe technique. During Sanji’s battle with Queen, Sanji combined the power of his Armament Haki with the cybernetic enhancements awakened by his Raid Suit to create Ifrit Jambe, a more powerful version of his signature Diable Jambe that coats his leg in blue fire. Once Sanji activated Ifrit Jambe, he was able to defeat Queen in a matter of seconds, so it stands to reason that Ifrit Jambe is his strongest technique yet.

Robin’s Gigante Fleur Technique

Robin's Gigante Fleur

Another Straw Hat Pirate to have one of their Wano arc techniques appear at the end of One Piece Film: Red is the Straw Hat Pirates' Robin with her Gigante Fleur technique. After the time skip, Robin became capable of using her Flower-Flower Fruit to create complete copies of herself, and during her fight with Black Maria, Robin revealed a new version of the technique that creates a giant copy of her to fight with. The size of the copy makes it easier for Robin to fall victim to her weakness of feeling any damage inflicted upon her generated body parts, but the raw power Gigante Fleur offers more than makes up for it, especially when it’s further augmented into the powerful Demonio Fleur technique.

Luffy’s Gear 5 Form

The final post-Wano reference in One Piece Film: Red, and undoubtedly the biggest spoiler in the movie, is the appearance of Luffy’s Gear 5 form. After temporarily dying against Kaido, Luffy not only comes back to life, but spontaneously unlocks the Awakened form of his Devil Fruit, which is also revealed to the audience to actually be the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika. Luffy’s Devil Fruit is stated to be the most ridiculous power in the world, and sure enough, when Luffy uses its Awakened form against Kaido, which he dubbed Gear 5, he starts making everything around him feel like a goofy cartoon with his constant goofy expressions and doing things like stretching his surroundings like rubber, making people’s eyes pop out of their heads, and even having his legs spin like wheels as if he were the Road Runner. In spite of the goofiness, however, Gear 5 is still an incredibly powerful technique that brings Luffy’s abilities to their peak, and with its power, he was finally able to defeat One Piece's Kaido and make himself known as one of the new Emperors.
