With just four more episodes remaining in Season 20 of the mega-popular anime series One Piece, all eyes turn to see how how the epic battle between the Emperors and the Worst Generation will transpire. At last blush, Big Mom and Kaido bore the brunt of the battle, leaving it up to Luffy, Zoro, and the other badass Straw Hat Pirates to end the skirmish and restore peaceful order in the near future.

Of course, to do so, the 10 Straw Hat Pirates will inevitably lean on their inherent characteristics, both the positive and the negative, to contribute to the fight against the Worst Generation. As every One Piece fan knows, it's the balance of good and bad behavior that makes the character so lovably relatable.

Monkey D. Luffy

Luffy grins maniacally on One Piece

With an insatiable appetite for good food as well as a lust for life, Monkey D. Luffy's best trait is his fearless leadership and willingness to take on any adventurous challenge while smiling in the face of danger. It's precisely his valiant nature and carefree attitude that enables the mega-popular anime character to become such a great leader and achieve his goal of becoming the most formidable pirate in the land.

Of course, bravery is a double-edged sword that often rhymes with stupidity. Luffy's weakest trait is his ignorance-is-bliss attitude and lack of common sense, traits that invariably get him into trouble. While he can be quick-tempered, impulsively reckless, and overly confident, Luffy's heart always remains in the right place.

Roronoa Zoro

Zoro crosses his swords in One Piece

A man of few words, Zoro is defined by honor, integrity, and fierce loyalty to his fellow Straw Hat Pirates. Between his Herculean strength, durability, immense speed, and cooperative teamwork skills, Zoro will risk his life to save one of his beloved crewmates, such as the time he rescued Chopper from Ohm and protected Usopp even after he left the crew. As such, he's one of the bravest One Piece crewmembers.

As every One Piece fan knows, Zoro's hilarious lack of direction has become a running gag as he continues to get lost all over the map. Aside from his reckless pride, over-reliance on his swords, and his comedic temperamental outbursts, Zoro's biggest cross to bear includes his overconsumption of sake, which gets him into constant trouble.

Nami

Nami holds a baton in One Piece

Marked by her vast intellect, Nami is said to have one of the highest IQs among the Straw Hats. Therefore, Nami doesn't suffer fools easily and uses her big brain to outwit various foes and help her mates conquer rival pirates. Even more important, without her brilliant navigational acumen, the Straw Hats would be out to sea forever. Nami is also extremely compassionate, capable of forgiveness, and sympathetically defends children such as Tama.

Alas, much of Nami's goodwill is belied by her immense greed for money and material items that reinforce her conceited vanity. Other than selling out a crewmate, Nami will do anything to obtain money and treasure. Between her crass materialism and sinful avarice, Nami can also be fearful, mistrustful of all pirates other than Luffy, and disbelieves in such myths as Devil Fruit, making her more aloof than the others.

Usopp

Usopp crawls through the jungle in One Piece

As The Straw Hat's designated sniper, Usopp's precise marksmanship tops his professional traits. However, as the most cowardly character, he must keep his distance and fire from a far distance to do his job well. A complex fella indeed, Usopp's silly sense of humor is among his best traits as he's often considered the comic relief of the crew. While constantly afraid, Usopp remains loyal to the cause and compassionate toward others.

But as every One Piece fan knows, Usopp's penchant for lying and relaying tall tales is one of his biggest downsides. Also overly sentimental, Usopp bursts into tears at the sight of the most innocuous threat, reinforcing his insecurity. Pessimistic and lacking self-esteem, Usopp did gain confidence after the time skip but by then his personality was pretty set in stone.

Sanji

Sanji smokes up close in One Piece

Cool, calm, and collected, Sanji is always in control no matter what scenario the Straw Hats are in. His high-powered perception allows Sanji to tell people what they need to hear rather than what they want, which gives him a sage paternal quality as well. Brave, intelligent, chivalrous, and generous as can be, Sanji's laidback demeanor belies what a decent person he is deep down. As the resident chef with a deep appreciation for food, Sanji also knows what it takes to nourish the pirates.

On the negative side, Sanji is an inveterate cigarette smoker, which is a terrible habit for his health. And despite his good intentions, he can also be overly flirtatious and amorous with women, which leads to mistakes that Zeff impugns him for. Sanji can also be stubbornly prideful over his high One Piece bounty, which radiates a negative cavalier attitude that sets a poor example for his mates.

Tony Tony Chopper

Chopper stands before the sky in One Piece

As the youngest Straw Hat, Chopper is adorably sweet-natured, kind-hearted, and extremely emotional. As a follower of the Hippocratic Oath, Chopper believes in a doctor's duty to keep people safe, and healthy, vowing to cure everyone inflicted with illness, even enemies as seen during the Raid at Onigashima.

Alas, Tony's toddler-like comportment means he is the most gullible, timorous, and fearful Straw Hat Pirate of all. Prone to emotional outbursts at the slightest perceived threat, and deeply mistrustful of humans, Chopper would rather flee from a fight than confront it head-on. And of course, who can forget Chopper's gluttonous sweet tooth as he voraciously gorges on deserts like Luffy does meat? The relatable habit may be bad but it's highly entertaining to watch.

Nico Robbin

Nico looks up to the sky on One Piece

The Straw Hat archeologist Nico Robin is known to be one of the smartest, most serene, and least emotional pirates. Rarely showing fear, Nico's bravery and unwavering loyalty to Luffy is only matched by Zoro, and she unconditionally supports him even when he acts impulsively. Due to her violent past, Nico is also one of the most formidable fighters on the crew and one of the strongest female One Piece characters.

Yet, with a morbid fascination with the macabre, Nico is a bit too dark for her own good at times. She often expresses thoughts about death in the face of danger which almost always unnerves her crewmates. Thankfully, once she saved Luffy twice, Nico's distant demeanor and dark outlook began to lighten up and become more compassionate.

Franky

Franky wears a Hawaiian shirt on One Piece

As The Straw Hats' chief Shipwright, Franky possesses superior carpentry skills that he uses to keep The Thousand Sunny afloat. Loyal, optimistic, and free-spirited, Franky is one of the biggest-hearted pirates in the crew who often bursts into tears over any touching humanitarian tale. Selfless and more mature than he lets on, Franky makes friends easier than most Straw Hats.

Alas, Franky's exhibitionistic nature makes him a tad ego-centric, which is demonstrated by his self-aggrandizing slogan "SUPER" every time he demonstrates his body contortions. Franky is also a self-proclaimed pervert, which doesn't really help his standing on the ship. A walking contradiction indeed!

Brook

Brook plays the violin on One Piece

As the Straw Hat's main musician and one of two swordsmen, Brook's ability to entertain and protect his crew ranks among his best qualities. A complex character, Brook can be polite, respectful, soft-spoken, and highly considerate of others, traits demonstrated when he dined with those stranded at Florian Triangle. A devout promise keeper, Brook is one of the best friends on the crew.

Then again, Brook's gentlemanly traits are countered by his repulsive perversions as a lecherous panty-pilferer and flatulent slob who does not demonstrate decorum. He's been seen yelling aggressively to receive food, contradictions that lead to his character being constantly misunderstood as a source of comic relief.

Jinbe

Luffy hugs Jinbe on One Piece

The half-fish helmsman of the Straw Hats, Jinbe is defined by his honor, respect, and consideration for others. As a Fish-Man from the Seven Wonders of the Sea, Jinbe's willingness to assist a human (Whitebeard) proves his principles, humility, and ethical code to do what is right, which starkly opposes his former mate, Arlong.

With that said, Jinbe has a tendency to bear too much responsibility at times, which results in few tasks being completed. Also, Jinbe will only follow a leader after they earn his respect as a captain. Other than that, Jinbe has far more positive traits than negative ones in the One Piece Straw Hat Pirates.
