The many members of the Straw Hat Pirates bring their own flair and skill sets to the crew in the hit manga series One Piece, but one piece of art by the series creator shows Nami stealing Zoro’s Three Swords Style. Eiichiro Oda created One Piece and has had the series printed in Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since 1997, showing off the eclectic group of pirates and their adventures with mass popularity ever since. In a newly revealed piece of art from the creator, Oda is evidently playing around with swapping characters and their skills as shown with the character Nami using Zoro’s iconic sword style.

Nami, aka "Cat Burglar" Nami,  is the Straw Hat Pirates' navigator whose skills include thievery as her moniker suggests. While her fighting skills are sufficient enough to tangle with most threats alongside her fellow crewmates, she is nowhere close to as skilled with a sword as Zoro. Zoro is one of the best swordsmen out there, using his classic technique that involves wielding three swords at once with one of them being held in his mouth (because that’s just how good he is). In the artwork, those characters are flipped and Nami is using that sword style in epic fashion.

In a Tweet posted by Soulstorm, with credit to Eiichiro Oda for the artwork advertised as originating from One Piece Magazine Volume 13, the character Nami is depicted using Zoro’s Three Swords Style. The magazine was released to celebrate the series’ 20th anniversary and contains exclusive details on behind-the-scenes work and gives an inside look at the One Piece characters. The artwork, like what is shown in the One Piece manga, is breathtaking with splashes of color and expertly-depicted movement. Not only is Nami posing with three swords, but the art shows that she actually knows how to handle them.

The Three Swords Style is known as Santoryu and was created by Roronoa Zoro, the expert swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates. The technique was first introduced to fans in One Piece Chapter 6 by Eiichiro Oda. The Santoryu style is what made Zoro the renowned swordsman he is known as today. Even though it is an unusual fighting technique, it has proved to be the best defense against multiple powerful enemies.

While fans may never see Nami using Santoryu in the manga, as it is an incredibly difficult move to master, it is a fun and imaginative image to behold. Oda is known for having fun with the One Piece characters, even involving them in a gag manga partnered with Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball, so this depiction playing around with the characters is not far off from what fans have witnessed in the past and is just a lot of fun to see.
