In the world of One Piece, a character’s bloodline is strongly tied to their fate and role in the world. Those born as Celestial Dragons are taught that they’re superior to every other race and that it’s only natural to command armies of slaves. Others born as the children of great pirates are hunted their entire lives for the sins of their parents. The secret lineage of one famous pirate may now decide her ultimate fate in the next batch of chapters.

“Big Eater” Jewelry Bonney is a member of The Worst Generation, a group of twelve super-rookies who all managed to earn a bounty of over 100,000,000 shortly after taking up piracy. Like every other pirate in The Worst Generation, Bonney rose to infamy for several notorious acts committed against the World Government at some point prior to the War at Marineford. She also seems to have ties to the legendary Revolutionary Army, and has been actively working towards a mysterious goal that concerns One Piece's Celestial Dragons. Her work with the Revolutionary Army all but reveals her true goals when looking at series author Eichiro Oda’s forgotten drafts for Bonney’s character.

From time to time Eichiro Oda and the staff working on One Piece will release Oda’s draft sketches for characters that were eventually added to the series. One of these sketch releases featured Jewelry Bonney and also happened to reveal what might very well be her true motivation. In the sketch of Bonney, a small blurb above her can be seen which reads “Wants to make Vegapunk restore her father.” Using context clues woven throughout the story, the only possible conclusion is that her father is the former sovereign of Sorbet Kingdom and a high-ranking officer of the Revolutionary Army- Bartolomew Kuma.

Why Bonney Has To Be Kuma's Daughter in One Piece

The evidence for this relation is overwhelming. To begin with, Bartolomew Kuma was first introduced as the former sovereign of a country known as Sorbet Kingdom. Later on at the meeting of world officials and leaders known as the Reverie, Bonnie herself attends as the Queen of Sorbet Kingdom, Connie. It seems as though Bonney has notoriously been dealing with the World Government and Celestial Dragons for some time now in order to find Vegapunk's whereabouts. This information combined with Oda's note of Bonney wanting to make Vegapunk restore her father all but guarantees she is the daughter of Bartolomew Kuma. Kuma is one of the first pirates Vegapunk worked on in One Piece. Vegapunk eventually turned Kuma into a mindless slave for the Celestial Dragons and modeled the World Government's Pacifistas after him. This would be more than compelling enough for Bonney to want to force Vegapunk to undo the changes made to Kuma and restore his free will.

The next few chapters of One Piece should quickly confirm or deny this new lineage but in all likelihood, this connection is guaranteed. It isn't often Oda writes a character into the main story to have them not be connected in some way to the plot at hand, and since Kuma was only recently freed a couple of chapters ago, this would be One Piece's perfect time for Bonney to try and find Vegapunk in order to undo all of his experimentation on her father.
