Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has once again beefed up its impressive cast, adding Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, Emile Hirsch and a host of actors. Tarantino's new film has been described by the director himself as having a vibe similar to Pulp Fiction. Set in Los Angeles in 1969, the film incorporates the Charles Manson murders into a whole tapestry centered around a pair of Hollywood wash-outs played by Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
With DiCaprio and Pitt on-board as his central characters, Tarantino has spent recent months fleshing out his cast, such as adding Margot Robbie as Sharon Tate - the actress and notable Manson Family murder victim. The film also recently added Timothy Olyphant in an undisclosed role, and Burt Reynolds as George Spahn, the owner of the infamous Spahn ranch where Manson and his family took up residence. Tarantino regulars Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, and Michael Madsen have also been confirmed for the film - but the casting list doesn't end there.
Deadline reports that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has cast a total of seven new actors: Damian Lewis, Dakota Fanning, Emile Hirsh, and Luke Perry head up the latest list of additions, which also includes Clifton Collins Jr., Keith Jefferson, and Nicholas Hammond.
Two of the newly added cast members will, like Burt Reynolds and Margot Robbie, be playing real-life figures involved in the Charles Manson story. Dakota Fanning gets the biggest among the new parts, playing famed Manson Family member Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme, who would, years later, go on to attempt to assassinate U.S. President Gerald Ford. Emile Hirsch will play Jay Sebring, the renowned L.A. hair stylist who was among the other victims the night of the Sharon Tate murder. Sebring would later inspire Warren Beatty's character in the classic film Shampoo.
Damian Lewis will also play a real-life character: famous movie star Steve McQueen. Nicholas Hammond, meanwhile, will play film director Sam Wanamaker. Rounding out the cast are Luke Perry as Scotty Lancer, Clifton Collins Jr. as Ernesto The Mexican Vaquero, and Keith Jefferson as Land Pirate Keith.
That list of actors - and characters - only makes Tarantino's film seem like an even wilder mix. Notably, there are two potentially important characters that have yet to be cast: Charles Manson and Roman Polanski. It was previously reported that Polanski, the film director husband of Sharon Tate and later a highly controversial figure in his own right, will figure into Tarantino's film and that Tarantino is seeking a Polish actor to play the part. It's not yet known how much Manson himself will appear in the movie, if at all. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is being produced by Sony Pictures, which won the film rights after a bidding war following Tarantino's split with The Weinstein Company.
