First look images for On My Block season 3 are released, along with a teaser that reveals the season’s release date. Created by the trio of Lauren Iungerich, Eddie Gonzalez, and Jeremy Haft, On My Block premiered on Netflix in March 2018. The series chronicles the lives of four smart and savvy friends as they navigate their way through high school with all of its ups and downs. In August of last year, production on On My Block season 3 began with the announcement that the cast had scored sizable pay raises after successful negotiations. Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco, and Jessica Marie Garcia are all back for the dramedy’s third outing. It seems that the characters they play will find themselves, as usual, in a bit of a bind.
The On My Block season 2 finale, similarly to the end of the first season, featured a cliffhanger. Monse (Capri) confronted her friends with the news that she’s leaving Freeridge. Met with dismissiveness, she storms off and doesn’t notice when Cesar (Tinoco), Ruby (Genao), and Jamal (Gray) are kidnapped and thrown into a van. The same severe misfortune befalls Monse as, some time later, someone abducts her as well. New first look images, in addition to a teaser, waste little time in addressing the fate of the protagonists.
On My Block season 3 will consist of eight episodes, as previously reported. The teaser, which opens by focusing on a sharp knife, reveals a release date of Wednesday, March 11. Cleverly, the quick preview packs a punch. For Netflix subscribers that haven’t seen the show yet, they might be surprised to see learn that an ostensibly typical high school story actually contains some wild turns. Obviously, there are a lot of questions regarding the abduction itself and the unintended consequences it creates. It remains to be seen if it will be enough to mend Monse’s friendship with her group, forcing the foursome to band together. Fans won’t have to wait very long, with On My Block season 3 set to drop in just a matter of weeks.
Lately, Netflix has made news for cancelling a number of shows. Daybreak, Spinning Out, and Insatiable, have all been given the axe by the streaming service even though some of those programs ended with cliffhangers of their own. But if On My Block continues to resonate with audiences, the writers will likely be free to continue putting the characters in surprisingly dangerous scenarios.
