After diving right into the cliffhanger ending presented in On My Block's previous Netflix installment, season 3 introduces a new mystery at the center of the series. Monse, Cesar, Ruby, and Jamal were successful in taking down the Prophets and giving Cesar a way out of the Santos. Just when the crew thought they were done with the gangs in the area, they are thrown right back in. The core four face many challenges this season and by the end, they're no longer the strong unit they once were.

Monse, Cesar, Ruby, and Jamal are kidnapped in the closing moments of On My Block season 2 and the new season starts right back up where the narrative left off. The friends are taken hostage by the Santos and it was orchestrated by the gang's true leader, Cuchillos. She convinces them to find Lil Ricky, a Santos' founding member who was previously presumed dead. Cuchillos offers the Roller World money in exchange for finding the man but they really have no choice in the matter.

Other than the main Lil Ricky mission in focus, On My Block season 3 focuses on the group as they each struggle with relationships whether romantic or familial. Then there's the fate of their friendship as obvious cracks start to affect the foundation of the core four. The season primarily takes place across one summer but winds up jumping far in the future in a shocking move which provides more questions than answers.

On My Block Season 3 Ends With A Surprising Time Jump

Netflix

When Monse is seen leaving Freeridge to head to her east coast private school, the group seems to be on better terms than the last time they were together. They apologize and embrace before sharing their love for one another as if nothing will change between them. While Monse heads out, the crew watches with a sense of hope. The screen then turns to black before the words "2 years later" emerge. On My Block season 3 then ends with a shocking multi-year time jump revealing that each major character drastically changes from when they are previously shown. The flashforward serves as a montage sequence and spends time on the fate of each main character and how they've grown apart. At this point, the core four of Monse, Jamal, Ruby, and Cesar are around 17 or 18 years old.

What Happens To Monse When She Leaves Freeridge?

On My Block Monse

Throughout On My Block season 3, Monse flip flops with her feelings regarding her cross-country move to attend a private boarding school. At the start, she wants to immediately leave her neighborhood, and her friends, behind for a fresh start. After the tension diminishes and her friends step up after her mother passes away, Monse has a change of heart about leaving. In reality, she's worried about not fitting in with her new classmates since Freeridge is all she's ever known. Cesar turns out to be the voice that convinces her that she needs to leave for a better chance at a future. Monse leaves, but not without a framed picture of her best friends that she vows to put on her bedside table.

In the time jump, Monse looks like a brand new person and is surrounded by a group of female friends hanging out in her dorm. She's extremely happy and comfortable before the camera pans to the pictures on display by her bed. Monse has a picture of herself with her school friends, as well as frames featuring her family, but the picture given to her before leaving Freeridge has been shoved to the back as if she doesn't give her old best friends any thought these days. Monse was concerned that her friends would forget about her when she left but it looks like the opposite came true. She's been known to have trouble making female friends but that's certainly no longer an issue.

Why Is Jamal Back On The Football Team?

Netflix

When Jamal was first introduced in Netflix's On My Block, he was a member of Freeridge High's football team. He joined the team to appease his dad who is a major sports fan. Unlike his father, Jamal is far from athletic as he identifies more like a proud, yet quirky, nerd. Jamal faked numerous injuries to get out of playing football before quitting the team altogether. He didn't have the heart to tell his dad that he was no longer on the team so he fakes it as long as possible. In the flashforward sequence, Jamal is back on the team and casually hanging out with his team.

Jamal doesn't mention football or sports during On My Block season 3 so this path is a complete surprise. He hates football so it's a major mystery why he rejoins the team and whether or not it was his decision. Jamal is fired from his family's BBQ restaurant, but he's still in the process of paying back his parents after he was caught vandalizing the football field looking for the Roller World money. It's possible that Jamal makes a deal with his dad to give football another try or something more drastic causes him to make the decision. Either way, it's very unlike Jamal to identify with the jocks.

Does Ruby Have A Falling Out With The Rest Of The Group?

Netflix

After dealing with PTSD for the majority of On My Block season 2, Ruby suffers a bit of a setback in the latest installment. The stress is intensified when he finds out his parents are having money problems leading to tension in their marriage. During his latest journey, Ruby realizes that he has real feelings for Jasmine which he reveals in the season finale. When he's shown in the time jump, Ruby is still dating Jasmine as they walk hand in hand at school. The most revealing detail, however, is the strange look he gives Jamal when he passes by the group of football players.

Ruby has a different vibe to him in the flashforward. Rather than his typical fashion sense of his button-up shirts, he's wearing a black Misfits t-shirt and his hair is styled differently. A lot can change in two years but his brief exchange with Jamal through just a look hints that something dark happened between them. Though they are both members of the core four, Ruby and Jamal had a special bond. It will be interesting to see what happened to their friendship and whether it led to a bigger fracture among the group.

Why Does Cesar Go Back To The Santos?

Netflix

Cesar goes through a bit of an identity crisis in On My Block season 3 on Netflix. After distancing himself from the Santos, Cesar is thrown right back into gang drama when Cuchillos forces him and his friends to find Lil Ricky. He tries to build something new, especially with Monse, but is hurt when he finds that his friends feel like he's responsible for the danger they keep finding themselves in. It seems like Cesar still had some hope for a real future but that was lost in the time jump.

When the show visits Cesar two years into the future, he has a shaved head and a new Santos tattoo. Not only is he back in the gang but it also looks like he's now a leader while he oversees someone getting beat up by fellow gang members. Cesar looks hardened as if violence is very prevalent in his life. It may not be a complete surprise since his character was being drawn back into the Santos all season. His willingness to hunt down Cuchillos and concern for the Santos' status in the neighborhood insinuated that his time as a gang member is far from over. Without his friends on his side, nobody is looking out for him anymore.

What's Next For Spooky?

Spooky in a pool in On My Block

With Cesar back with the Santos, his older brother and past leader of the gang did the opposite by getting away from a life of crime. After making a deal with 19th Street, Spooky mentions that he's over this chapter of his life and he wants "adult problems" as well as a wife and kid. According to the time jump, he does just that.

Spooky, who probably goes by Oscar in the time jump, is manning the grill during a packed bbq gathering. He has a full head of hair and a new style, showing that he doesn't align with the Santos anymore. A woman then walks up and they embrace as it's revealed she's pregnant. It's assumed that Spooky is aware of Cesar's involvement with the Santos but he obviously has other concerns at this point in his life. It's unclear if the brothers are even on speaking terms but that will surely come into focus with On My Block season 4 if Netflix gives the green light.
