On My Block is back for its fourth and final season this week, picking up from the previous season's time jump. It's a bittersweet farewell to everyone's favorite Freeridge students, but it also opens the door to a new female-centric series taking place in the same town: Freeridge. But first, audiences will see how Monse (Sierra Capri) and her friends have grown and changed before prom and graduation.

While Monse has spent her time at boarding school, Cesar (Diego Tinoc0) is the leader of Santos and his brother Oscar (Julio Macias) has become a family man. Ruby (Jason Genao), on the other hand, has been enjoying his romance with Jasmine (Jessica Marie Garcia) but has never felt further away from his friendship with Jamal (Brett Gray). Despite the estrangement between the classmates, the discovery of a long-buried secret forces them to realize they can't escape either the past or each other.

Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco, Jessica Marie Garcia, and Julio Macias spoke to Screen Rant about the arcs in the final season and reminisced about how far they've come in the last four years.

On My Block Season 4

Screen Rant: Diego and Julio, it feels like the brothers are in reverse places after this time jump. Can you talk about how that affects the family dynamic?

Diego Tinoco: You’re absolutely right, we have switched places. Cesar is now fully immersed in who he believes he is, and who he should have always been: the new head leader of the Santos with an explosive new state of mind that is dangerous, volatile and unpredictable. Whereas now his brother is pretty much...

Julio Macias: Oscar feels a little bit like he's passed on. He's been so responsible for his little brother for so many years, and now he thinks, "You know what? At this point, I gotta let him be his own person."

Diego Tinoco: And you're gonna see him bump heads. That's gonna be the dynamic.

Jason and Brett, it feels like the friends are more splintered than ever before. And that is most obvious with Ruby and Jamal. Can you talk about how you butt heads?

Jason Genao: I think our relationship really stems from how Ruby just has too much of a personality, and Jamal feels like he's been left out and stepped over. And I feel like he finally is like, "I'm over that." And Ruby now has this whole new view on life, which is Jasmine, and so he's letting Jamal be over it.

They're going their separate ways, and they're doing their own thing now.

Brett Gray: And it sucks, because it was a miscommunication for multiple seasons in a row between Ruby and Jamal. That kind of broke my heart too, because they were so close - like, we were sitting on the porch season 1 with each other.

I think it's gonna be awesome to see if we can get it together too.

On My Block season 4

This season we see Jasmine's relationship with Ruby blossom while Monse continues her roller coaster ride with Cesar. But what I love most is your inner growth and development as young women. Can you talk about the biggest lessons they learn this season?

Sierra Capri: First of all, I feel like Monse and Jasmine learn a lot from each other, and that's what makes them such great friends. Definitely, Monse has learned that it's okay to take time for yourself and focus on you before you can focus on someone else. I think that's why when she goes away to boarding school, it's such a moment. Because it's like, "Wait, is she gonna come back? Is she gonna stay there?"

I'm excited to see what happens.

Jessica Marie Garcia: And I gotta say for Jasmine, I think she always wears her heart on her sleeve, and she doesn't apologize for who she is. So, that is something she's always stayed true to. But I think with Ruby, everything is, "Ruby, Ruby!"

I think that Monse really snaps her out of that and reminds her, "You gotta put yourself first." I love their friendship together. I think they really do - they don't complete each other, because I don't like saying that, but - they really do bring out the best in each other.
