Humanoids Publishing has announced that they will donate proceeds from digital sales of its OMNI comic book series to the Black Lives Matter movement.  Now through August 31, issues 1 through 4 of the ongoing superhero title written by Devin Grayson (Nightwing, Black Widow) with art by Alitha E. Martinez are on sale at ComiXology for $.99, and 100% of the royalties for sales of those issues will go to the Black Lives Matter movement.

Founded in Paris in the early 1970s by groundbreaking European comic book luminaries Jean Giraud (known as Mœbius), Philippe Druillet and Pierre Dionnet, Humanoids gained international acclaim when they began publishing the comics magazine Métal Hurlant (French for "Screaming Metal") in 1975.  Métal Hurlant’s success inspired the U.S.-based magazine National Lampoon to launch Heavy Metal magazine in 1977 which initially published Druillet, Mœbius and other European creators in English translations and soon attracted North American creators including Frank Frazetta, Richard Corben, Stephen R. Bissette, Gray Morrow, Jim Steranko and Bernie Wrightson, among others.

In February of this year, Humanoids named industry veteran Mark Waid (Captain America, Daredevil, Flash) as the company’s new publisher, joining Eisner Award-winning American artist John Cassaday, who became Chief Creative Officer of the company in 2018. Currently offering an impressive slate of innovative comics, Humanoids began publishing the critically-acclaimed OMNI in May of 2019 and the first issue sold out quickly, prompting a second printing. The Hollywood Reporter called the series “The Future of Comics” and the series was featured in The New York Times as one of “8 New Comic Book Series for the End of Summer” in August, 2019. OMNI is part of Humanoids new H1 “reality based super-powered world” shared universe line of titles which also includes Ignited by Mark Waid and Kwanza Osajefyo.

“Woman. Genius. Black.”  That’s the tagline for OMNI, which tells the story of Cecelia Cobbina, a doctor “Ignited” into a near godlike being with the power to think at the speed of light. Cecelia quickly learns that people all over the planet are igniting with powers, but only her new mental abilities can answer why and help her discover if the sudden appearance of super-powered individuals is the prelude to something more. And now, Cecelia’s adventures will help support an important cause as proceeds for the first four issues purchased from ComiXology through the end of August go to the BLM movement. Smart, entertaining and socially conscious, OMNI is a no-brainer for comic fans.
