When Olivia Wilde’s character, Thirteen, left the hit Fox series House in the season 7 premiere, fans were left wondering where the illusive physician was headed and when she would return to the series.
Given that Thirteen’s planned trip to Rome turned out to be a carefully planned ruse, her eventual destination remained unknown. As the boisterous fan base of House continued to speculate the whereabouts of Thirteen, almost every possibility was considered.
Unfortunately, with release of the plot description for the April 11 return episode of House, entitled “The Big Dig,” it turns out that the collective minds of the House fan community were nowhere near close to Thirteen’s true destination.
It goes without saying that anyone who doesn’t want to be SPOILED should turn away now…
Not only will said episode mark the return of Olivia Wilde to the House, but it has been revealed that Thirteen’s 17-episode disappearance will be attributed to the fact that she was in prison.
“The Big Dig” Episode Description
Thirteen has been in prison for the past year, but the real mystery for House is what she did to get there. When she exits the prison, she is taken aback to find him waiting for her, and unaware he’s got plans for the two of them for the next few days. As House probes Thirteen for more information about her crime, intent on solving the puzzle of her mysterious incarceration, they travel to an annual spud-gun competition and join forces to compete against House’s much younger, overconfident rival, and along the journey uncover secrets and truths about each other.
While Thirteen’s mysterious incarceration certainly sounds compelling, the recent drug-induced parody-esque episode of House brings into question whether or not the producers are making the best decisions in terms of how to progress certain integral plot elements. Even though it’s doubtful that Thirteen’s inmate inquisition will lead to Hugh Laurie and Olivia Wilde singing a duet, one has to worry that when her crimes are revealed, they won’t be as captivating as the mystery that preceded it.
Still, House is a 7-year old series and they’ve rarely let fans down. Barring any zombies returning to Princeton-Plainsboro, Thirteen’s newly implemented story-arc should make for some wonderful television.
