Olivia Cooke played Samantha Cook (AKA Art3mis) in Steven Spielberg’s big screen adaptation of Ernest Cline’s sci-fi novel Ready Player One, but which other movies and TV shows has she been in? British-born actress Olivia Cooke made her small screen debut in two BBC miniseries in 2012. The first, Blackout, starred Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) as a corrupt councilman with Cooke playing his daughter Meg. The second was The Secret Of Crickley Hall – a supernatural thriller based on James Herbert’s book of the same name – which starred Cooke as a teacher at a wartime orphanage and featured Game of Thrones’ Maisie Williams and Tom Ellis among its cast.
It wasn’t long before Olivia Cooke nabbed work across the pond. In 2013 she joined the cast of A&E’s psychological horror drama series Bates Motel alongside fellow Brit Freddie Highmore. Cooke played Emma Decody – friend and sometime love interest to Highmore’s Norman Bates – for five seasons before the show came to an end. In 2014, Cooke also starred in a trio of feature-length films; sci-fi thriller The Signal, and the horror movies The Quiet Ones and Ouija.
Olivia Cooke’s next film role came in the 2015 indie coming-of-age dramedy Me And Earl And The Dying Girl in which she played Rachel Kushner, a teenager diagnosed with terminal cancer. That same year Cooke reunited with her Me And Earl And The Dying Girl co-star Nick Offerman when she voiced the Loch Ness Monster in an episode of Fox animated comedy Axe Cop that was co-written by Offerman. In 2016 she starred in indie drama Katie Says Goodbye and gothic horror The Limehouse Golem.
Cooke’s more recent film credits include starring alongside Anya Taylor-Joy in the 2017 dark comedy Thoroughbreds and in Dan Fogelman’s epic but critically panned drama Life Itself. She also featured in critically acclaimed indie Sound Of Metal about a heavy metal drummer (Riz Ahmed, Venom) who loses his hearing. Cooke recently made a return to British television, playing Becky Sharp in the ITV period drama Vanity Fair and featured in a couple of episodes of Amazon’s anthology series Modern Love.
Over the next few years, it looks like Olivia Cooke’s star is set to rise even further. She’ll soon star in romantic sci-fi film Little Fish with fellow British talent Jack O’Connell and alongside John Boyega and Bill Skarsgård in Naked Singularity, a movie adaptation of Sergio De La Pava’s novel. Her other upcoming credits include heist comedy Pixie and biographical drama Courting Danger in which she’ll play tennis player-turned-spy Alice Marble.
