I just watched the trailer for Oliver Stone's upcoming World Trade Center and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Ok, really, I was shocked. At what? At the fact that he seems to have created a true tribute to the policemen and firemen who risked and lost their lives that day trying to save the people who were in the towers.
As soon as I had heard "Oliver Stone" and "World Trade Center" mentioned in the same sentence a while back I had a sense of dread concerning this film. After all, this is the guy who gave us "JFK" with all it's bizarre conspiracy theories. I don't know what I was expecting, but I certainly thought it would be political at the very least and possibly conspiratorial at worst.
So imagine my surprise upon viewing the trailer to see that it focused exclusively on the men that were heroes on September 11th and their families. Of course the jury will be out until the film is actually released, but it seems right now like this may follow in the footsteps of United 93 in giving us a thoughtful and respectful tribute to the people who were directly affected on that terrible day.
