Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans, a slightly over-the-top remake, is the latest project by Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man, Invincible). The film made the rounds on the festival circuit and Screen Rant correspondent John Foote, caught a viewing of it at the Toronto International Film Festival where it was named as an official selection. He walked away with praise for the project that he thought was somewhat bizarre.
The major call out we're seeing commonly reported from those who've screened the film is about Nicolas Cage's strong performance. Here at Screen Rant, John thought described Cage's work in this film as "hugely entertaining and wildly over the top performance," and that's it's some of the best work of his career.
Today we have the brand new official trailer for Bad Lieutenant and it'll sure give you some hints about what to expect about Cage's character.
Watch and enjoy:
Cage plays a New Orleans police officer after the events of Hurricane Katrina who suffers from a back ailment. This leads to him starting to use more than just painkillers, but a variety of illegal substances. His addiction doesn't stop there though as he becomes addicted to power, setting the path of his adventure of "highs" and lows.
