After being proclaimed the top streamed non-original show on Netflix, fans can now watch The Office play out in a new, unexpected platform - Slack. Despite receiving low ratings on its first season, The Office quickly found a place in viewers’ hearts and dedicated fans still stream all nine of its seasons seven years after the series finale aired. Since then, fans have been pleading for a reunion special or reboot. While some cast members, like John Krasinski, have expressed interest in a reunion, Steve Carell has said that the show wouldn’t be well-perceived with today’s PC audience.

MSCHF is the company responsible for creating the slack for The Office. The elusive Brooklyn-based company doesn’t adhere to the confines of typical company norms. Instead of specializing in one product, they offer an array of quirky things like Nikes filled with holy water, rubber chicken bongs and a stock investment app based on astrology. The company announces its latest products and offers as “drops” on its MSCHF app.

MSCHF's latest drop is The Office Slack in which they portray the characters from the show and recreate each episode. They are currently on The Office season 2, but it seems they plan to go all the way up to season 9. The Slack has nearly 7,000 members watching the episodes being recreated live. The Slack has channels for each aspect of the show including the conference room, corporate, sales, pranks, the party planning committee and more.

The Office season 2

MSCHF’s Slack emerged around the same time that the cast of The Office recreated one of its most iconic scenes. Krasinski organized the mini reunion on his YouTube talk show Some Good News. The cast re-enacted the dance sequence from Jim and Pam’s wedding to “Forever.” Sitcom reunions are a current trend especially during these tough times. Parks and Recreation recently aired a new episode about reconnecting during quarantine. The cast of Friends are set to tape a reunion special later this year that will air on HBO Max. Additionally, there have been rumors surrounding a Community movie.

While The Office Slack channel is a bit chaotic and difficult to follow, the amount of effort that MSCHF has put into it is admirable. Creating characters that are able to quote all 201 episodes of The Office line for line is no easy feat. Viewers can also react with emojis giving it a slightly immersive feeling that Netflix can’t offer. Additionally, featuring the episodes in Slack is plausible for a workplace sitcom and represents what it might look like if The Office existed in the real world and Dunder Mifflin had its own Slack. Fans that are brave enough to enter this Slack and are able to keep up with its fast-paced nature will enjoy reliving their favorite The Office moments in an entirely new way.
