Michael Scott's dreams of being a filmmaker were realized on The Office through the making of Threat Level Midnight - and it included a subtle reference to Michael Bay's Armageddon. Even though his day job is the brand manager of Dunder Mifflin's Scranton office, Michael never stopped pursuing his various interests. One of the biggest examples of this was his commitment to seeing Threat Level Midnight through until the end.

Threat Level Midnight is a movie that Michael wrote, produced, directed, and starred in as Michael Scarn - a top-flight special agent with a specialty in saving the day. The concept of the film was first teased in the second season of The Office when Pam Beesley (Jenna Fischer) found the script in Michael's desk, which led to the entire office doing a readthrough. But it wasn't until season 7 that the finished version of the film premiered. Unsurprisingly, Michael borrowed plenty of elements from other movies and TV shows to make Threat Level Midnight, including the recreation of a scene from Armageddon.

The Armageddon reference comes when Michael Scarn sees flashbacks to key moments in his life. As discussed in the latest Screen Rant video, one of these flashbacks pays off a quick mention of Michael wanting to have ketchup fights with his significant other, but the very next moment is a clear recreation of Armageddon. The flashback shows Michael Scarn playing with animal crackers on his wife's chest, recreating the scene between Ben Affleck and Liv Tyler from the beginning of the film. Michael's attention to detail is so spot on that he even made sure the apparel of the characters was the same.

This moment might be quick, but it's clear that Michael Scott is a big fan of Michael Bay's cheesy, popcorn action film. And this is just one of a few movie references that Michael included in Threat Level Midnight. The movie includes some similar moments to Die Hard and Karate Kid, while the extended version of the film has Michael recreate the post-credits scene from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Meanwhile, naming the antagonist Goldenface makes the entire film's riff on James Bond all the more clear, as Goldfinger is a popular Bond villain.

All of these movie references point to just how big of a movie fan Michael Scott was and how those films inspired Threat Level Midnight. He was also shown to be a big fan of Meryl Streep over the course of the series, especially her film The Devil Wears Prada. Some of the other movies he's said to be a fan of include Mean GirlsMillion Dollar BabyA Bug's Life, and MacGruber. But, with this Armageddon Easter egg in Threat Level Midnight, one has to wonder what Michael thinks of Bay's other films. And just imagine his confusion seeing The Office star John Krasinski in 13 Hours.
