The Office is one of the most beloved sitcoms of all time. Running from 2005 to 2013 over the span of nine seasons, the series has stood the test of time, only becoming more popular with age thanks to its prominence on streaming platforms.

In the age of endless remakes, reunions and reboots, fans of The Office have been clamoring to see more of their favorite Dunder Mifflin employees for years. Despite the show's continued popularity and the willingness of most members of the cast, there has yet to be any official announcement of any reunion for the series. Nevertheless, there are countless potential plotlines that such a reunion special could take.

The End Of Dunder Mifflin

The Office Michael Dunder Mifflin

It isn't a stretch by any means to say that Dunder Mifflin, as a company, was on its very last legs by the time the documentary crew arrived to the office in the first season. Though the failing paper company was given extra time after its acquisition by Sabre, it wouldn't be at all surprising to learn that the Dunder Mifflin paper company would be closing down in an increasingly paperless world.

A story thread dealing with the inevitable dissolution of Dunder Mifflin would potentially provide each of the core characters from the series with a reason to reunite, perhaps to fight for the company's continued survival or simply to say goodbye to their one-time employer. Such a premise would surely carry with it enough emotional weight to justify a cast reunion and leave fans satisfied.

The Halperts

John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer and Jim and Pam Halpert taking a bizarre family picture with their two children

Though there are plenty of potential opportunities for a reboot of The Office, a self-contained spinoff may prove to be a favorable option. One clear opportunity that could be seized is to produce a spinoff centered around the Halpert family set ten years after the end of the original series.

Audiences last saw Jim, Pam, Cece, and Phillip as they were preparing to leave Scranton and move to Philadelphia, where Jim planned on rejoining Athleap. Such a series would be bound for success, already containing two of the best characters from The Office, as well as Darryl Philbin, who Jim would undoubtedly still be working with.

Road Trip

Dwight and Michael in the car on The Office

A classic (and quite literal) vehicle in "getting the band back together" films and series is a road trip, something that Michael Scott is no doubt well aware of given his expansive film knowledge. It wouldn't take much for the former Dunder Mifflin manager to attempt to round up his former coworkers by means of a road trip.

This premise unites Michael Scott's delusions concerning his closeness to his former employees and the painfully awkward stylings of the original series. With the exception of Dwight, the rest of Dunder Mifflin Scranton's former team would want nothing to do with this road trip, but would doubtlessly be roped in nonetheless, making for a hilarious premise, which borrows from the follow-up film to The Office's UK series, David Brent: Life on the Road.

The Adventures Of Ryan And Kelly

Ryan and Kelly are undoubtedly one of the worst couples from the original show, yet they managed to get back together in the series finale, running off into the sunset after abandoning Ryan's son Drake at Dwight and Angela's wedding. This is the last fans ever see of these characters, leaving the next events of their adventures completely unknown.

Mindy Kaling and BJ Novak were two major influences on The Office, who could certainly recapture the original magic in a spinoff centered around their two characters. The two have gone on to work together in the years since the show, most notably on The Mindy Project, and could easily reunite once more for a spinoff to their first major success as writers and actors.

Scott Family Paper

Michael Scott could start any number of paper companies, after all, he has no shortage of names. Much of Michael's life after moving to Colorado is left a mystery, including what he did for a living after arriving there. It wouldn't be a surprise to viewers if Michael started his own paper company in Boulder.

A reboot centering around Michael and Holly running their own family-owned paper company would open the door to plenty of fun gags reminiscent of the "Michael Scott Paper Company" days. Such a series could also feature any number of cameos from the show's original cast, perhaps as Michael strives to expand his business by hiring his former employees.

The Farm

The Office Rainn Wilson as Dwight on Schrute Farms

It is common knowledge among The Office fans that a spinoff very nearly did happen involving Dwight Schrute and his family. This series would have been titled The Farm and would have followed the strange Schrute clan in running their beet farm. Though this spinoff never came to fruition, fans got a glimpse of what The Farm might have looked like in the season nine backdoor pilot of the same name.

While fans likely want to see a reunion of the show's entire cast, a spinoff centered around Dwight and his family may be a better option. Many shows that undergo a by-the-books reunion end up paling in comparison to the original, whereas spinoffs have more room to breathe. The Farm also has potential for a multi-season run, which could feature guest star spots for each member of the original cast over several years.

Goodbye To A Friend

There isn't much that brings long-lost friends together than a funeral. Though they are bleak affairs, funerals often bring about reconnection among those who haven't seen each other in some time. The death of a member of the office's staff, like Creed Bratton, who would be approaching one hundred years old in the present day, could be exactly the catalyst necessary to bring together his former coworkers.

Despite the sad affair of Creed's funeral, fans of The Office know that even death can be hilarious when in the hands of the show's capable writers. And while no one wants to see a reboot without The Office's ridiculously funny Creed, the character is known for having faked his death on a number of occasions, and could very well return by the reunion's end.

The Schrute Regime

Dwight excitedly sits in his office as manager of Dunder Mifflin in The Office

By the time The Office came to an end, Dwight Schrute had finally become the manager of Dunder Mifflin Scranton, accomplishing his lifelong dream. However, with Dwight's promotion occurring in the last few episodes of the series, fans got to see very little of his regime after taking over the branch.

Dwight had gone through plenty of character development prior to taking over as manager, but his regime was still just as whacky as longtime fans had come to expect. A reboot revolving around Dwight's leadership of a new group of employees could prove to be just as hilarious as the original series while revitalizing the franchise with fresh faces.

Michael And Holly's Wedding

Michael proposes to Holly in The Office

Though Michael's departure from The Office in season 7 was brilliantly written and a worthy conclusion to his character arc, fans have always felt somewhat cheated that they were never able to see his wedding to Holly Flax. After years of watching Michael's desperate search for love, fans deserve to see the culmination of the character's lifelong journey.

During Michael's cameo in the series finale, it is implied that he and Holly have married and perhaps even had some children in the time since they left. Nevertheless, a reunion special could be presented as a flashback event, with each character from Scranton in attendance at their former boss's wedding ceremony, as it is difficult to imagine Michael not inviting any of his work family to such an event.

10th Anniversary Reunion Special

Nostalgia is a primary force in the creative world today, with reunions and remakes seeming to take place for nearly every popular property that had supposedly come to an end. Many fans would likely be pleased with a classic reunion special, wherein the characters of the series come together as part of a planned event, not unlike the one featured in the series finale.

A reunion crafted in the classic Office style has the opportunity to bring back everything fans loved about the original show, right down to the talking heads and mockumentary style. The perfect opportunity for such an event has even already presented itself, as the show's ending is only one year away from its tenth anniversary.
