There are many characters in The Office that have made their mark on the show in more ways than one. The bumbling regional manager Michael Scott, the prankster Jim Halpert, the girl-next-door Pam Beesley, and the oddity that is Dwight Schrute are just a few of the many characters in the show who have become legendary for all the right reasons.

One such character who has definitely etched her name in the annals of The Office's history with her actions is none other than Jan Levinson — a character who initially started off as a no-nonsense boss before exposing her emotional side and finally ending up in a rather toxic relationship with Michael Scott that admittedly did lead to some of the more hilarious moments in the show.

That being said, this character isn't perfect by any means. To put that into context, here are ten things about Jan Levinson that make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

She's A Bit Too Hard On Michael At Times In The Early Goings

It's understandable as to why a member of corporate would be hard on their branches, especially when the person who's the face of said branch is Michael.

That being said, Dunder Mifflin Scranton was one of the company's most profitable branches, meaning that there were at least some things that Michael was doing right. Maybe Jan should've realized this and eased up on Michael slightly?

She Should've Lambasted Jim For Baiting Michael With That's-What-She-Said Jokes

During the early moments of Jan's appearances in The Office, she starts taking issues with some of Michael's more questionable behavior, with his that's-what-she-said jokes in particular coming under the limelight.

However, while she's telling Michael to not repeat the joke, Jim purposely baits Michael with his errant comments, causing Michael to finally give in and defy Jan's orders.

While it's true that Michael is responsible for this joke, Jan should've also been critical of Jim in this scene as well — it was clear to everyone that he knew what he was doing, after all.

Her Character Swerves Quite Severely In The Show

Jan Levinson from The Office

There was a time when Jan used to be a no-nonsense corporate stooge who made sure to keep Michael and the rest of the Scranton Branch in line. However, this all changes after she ends up making out with Michael, leading to a situation where she eventually gives in to her feelings and decides to be in a relationship with him.

This relationship completely alters Jan's character as well, who goes from being a fairly sensible character into a possessive, narcissistic egomaniac who ends up causing no end of problems for everyone around her, with Michael facing the brunt of this abuse.

The Timing Of Her Surgery Was Certainly Quite... Convenient

In fact, things reach a boiling point when Michael has had enough of Jan's controlling behavior and emotional abuse. This compels him to break up with Jan that very day — after some discussion with the women in the office — only for Jan to drop by with some major enhancements that make Michael change his mind at the drop of a hat.

The fact that Jan got this surgery almost instantly and right when Michael had second thoughts is certainly perfect timing indeed... in fact, it may be too perfect for the liking of many people.

It's Unbelievable That She Made Michael Perform So Many Vasectomies

The "Dinner Party" episode is easily one of the most episodes of The Office, featuring the show at its very best with its narrative, writing, characters, and just the sheer ludicrousness of the situations that the Dunder Mifflin Branch found themselves in.

During this episode, it's revealed that Jan pretty much forced Michael into getting a vasectomy, undoing said vasectomy, and then redoing this procedure again. Not only was this completely unnecessary, but there's no denying that Michael would've also faced some intense physical and mental pressure as a result.

It Was Stupid Of Michael To Stay With Her For So Long

Michael and Jan in The Office

As much as anyone may feel sad for Michael for being manipulated by Jan for so long, there's no denying the fact that he himself is to blame for staying in such a toxic relationship for so long.

It made absolutely no sense for him to stick with Jan for so long... but unfortunately, he heeded the advice of another body part instead of his heart and brain.

Her Therapist Sounds Like The Worst Medical Professional Of All Time

The Office

The manner in which Jan has described her therapist makes him or her sound like an absolute train wreck.

Not only did this person tell Jan to "embrace" her self-destructive tendencies — which sounds like the worst advice anyone can give, let alone a licensed therapist — but they even went so far as to watch the videos that Jan shot of her and Michael doing it!

How is that not the most ridiculously unprofessional act that anyone could do?

Any Sane Person Would've Realized How Horrible Her Candles Smelled

Jan Levinson and her Candles in The Office

After being fired from Dunder Mifflin, Jan tried to participate in several new ventures... including the sale of homemade scented candles that smelled like the worst thing in the world.

Surely she was smart enough to realize just how horrible this product really was?

The Fact That Clark Was Bait Should've Been Noticed Very Quickly By Her

Cark from The Office

After finally securing a high-ranking job at the White Pages phonebook company, Jan decides to carry out a power move on Dunder Mifflin Scranton by calling them over for a meeting with the express purpose of crapping all over them... only to have the tables turned when Dwight decides to use Clark as bait in order to secure the contract.

Jan might be a ton of things, but stupid is not one of them. How did she not see through this incredibly obvious ploy by Dwight to secure her valuable account?

Having Relations With Borderline-Underage Partners Is Just Incredibly Stupid Of Her

Speaking of which, it's a horrible move from Jan's end to take advantage of young men in order to fulfill her own twisted desires.

Sure, Clark might be 23 years old, so maybe she can be given a pass for sleeping with him... to an extent. However, it's widely believed that she also had an affair with her previous assistant Hunter, who was just a teenager!

How is that acceptable by any means?
