While Jim and Pam might be the core relationship on The Office, Dwight and Angela’s relationship was also a big part of the series. Their love story had way more ups and downs, and it was definitely not as endearing.

However, there were some surprisingly sweet moments between the two of them. But despite some surprisingly emotional and even cute scenes, there are just a lot of things about them as a couple that don't match up. In fact, they did a lot of awful things to each other that make it hard to believe their relationship would ever work.

Her insistence on keeping things a secret

Dwight makes a lot of mistakes, but he did seem to genuinely care about Angela and want to make her happy. However, despite being devoted to her, Angela insisted on keeping their relationship a secret. While she is uptight and has a lot of issues, she should have been willing to disclose their relationship to save Dwight’s job. The fact that she chose not to shows she didn’t care about him that much.

Why Angela ever dated him if he didn’t like cats

Angela might not always be consistent in her religious beliefs or moral convictions, as she’s really a hypocrite underneath it all, but she was very consistent in her love of cats. This was one of the defining things about her, and her life pretty much revolved around her feline friends.

Given that this was the most important thing in her life, it doesn’t make much sense she’d be with Dwight in the first place. It’s like if someone who loved kids was with someone who despised them.

The storyline with Esther

One of the most awkward and least interesting storylines Dwight had on the show was his romantic relationship with Esther, another farmer. The relationship was an attempt to integrate a possible spin-off show that centered around Dwight. This is probably why the chemistry and relationship between the two of them seem really forced and didn’t make sense.

That Dwight didn’t help Angela after she left Robert

After Angela’s life falls apart when Robert reveals he’s been cheating on Angela all along, she has nowhere to go and is running out of money. She really hits rock bottom, but Dwight won’t take her in unless he knows Phillip is his son.

Oscar ends up offering her a place to live, but truthfully, Dwight should have helped Angela out regardless of the paternity of her son, mostly because it was obvious that he still loved her.

The fact they never got in trouble at work

Dwight and Angela having an affair in the office

When it comes to The Office, fans always have to be willing to suspend disbelief. It’s a comedic show, so it’s not always going to be realistic.

However, sometimes it still pushed things too far into being ridiculously unbelievable. There were so many times when people should have been fired, and it’s wild that Dwight and Angela were able to use the workplace as their own personal bedroom and get away with it.

That Angela still slept with him after he killed Sprinkles

Once again, it just doesn’t make sense that Angela would be with someone who didn’t love cats or at least understand how much they meant to her. While she does break up with Dwight after he kills Sprinkles, she’s willing to still hook up with him and continue their affair. It’s hard to imagine why anyone that is in love with their pets would forgive someone who murdered one.

Angela’s relationship with Andy

Angela does a lot of hypocritical things in the series. While she acts uptight and likes to judge others for their personal lives, she does some pretty unethical things including having multiple affairs with Dwight.

She was clearly dating Andy to get back at Dwight, but the fact that she was actually going to go through with marrying him is pretty wild.

When Dwight and Anglea weren’t together but agreed to have a child together per a contract, Dwight was having a fling with Pam’s friend that he met at the wedding. This storyline was also strange as Isabel didn’t seem like someone who would be interested in Dwight, and he didn’t seem like someone who would be interested in her.

Dwight committed a crime against her right before their wedding

While in the last few episodes of the series, Dwight and Angela actually seem to really communicate with another and have a good relationship, one final upsetting thing happens. Dwight has Angela kidnapped by Mose as per family tradition. While it’s meant to be funny, it was just messed up. Angela was even somewhat injured in the process.

The paternity of their son

One of the things that makes the least sense about their relationship is who Phillip’s father actually is. Dwight goes so far as to get a doctor to test the paternity, and the doctor says Phillip isn’t his. Then, in the final season, it’s revealed by Angela that Dwight actually is Phillip’s father. It makes no sense as Dwight got the test himself. Did the doctor lie to Dwight? Why?
